Mumbai Cobras Take Commanding Lead in United Series with 3-1 Victory over Mid East Falcons

Karan Patel delivered a dominant pitching performance, striking out 10 batters over five innings, as the Mumbai Cobras defeated the Mid East Falcons 3-1 at Baseball United Ballpark on Friday night. Miguel Ojeda Jr.’s solo home run in the fourth inning gave the Cobras the lead in the United Series, moving the team one win away from claiming the championship.

Patel recorded his best outing of the season, throwing 81 pitches, 57 of which were strikes. He allowed only four hits and struck out Alejandro de Aza, Jake Hjelle, Shuhei Fukuda, and Federico Celli twice each, keeping the Falcons’ lineup off balance throughout his five innings on the mound.

Relief pitching for the Cobras was strong as well. Chandler Woolridge, who earned the first win in United Series history, pitched one inning, allowing one earned run while striking out one and walking two. Brandon Kaminer added one scoreless inning with one strikeout, and Akeel Morris closed out two innings, giving up two hits and striking out two.

The Cobras’ offense received key contributions in addition to Ojeda’s home run. Gedionne Marlin went 1-for-3 with an RBI in the seventh inning, driving in the team’s third run. Brantley Bell went 1-for-4 with a run scored, while Ian Mercado contributed 1-for-2 at the plate.

With this win, Mumbai is now just one victory away from becoming the first champions in Baseball United history.

On the Falcons’ side, starting pitcher Shute Sakurai delivered a solid performance, pitching six innings, allowing six hits, one earned run, and striking out seven batters. Shingo Hirata, who took the loss, pitched two innings, giving up three hits and two runs, with one earned run and one strikeout. Hiroyuki Nakajima led the Falcons’ offense, going 2-for-3 at the plate. The team left seven runners on base, a key factor in their inability to mount a comeback.

The Falcons now face a must-win situation in Game 2 to extend the series. A victory would force a decisive Game 3, scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 14, giving Mid East one last chance to claim the inaugural United Series championship.

The Mumbai Cobras’ combination of precise pitching and timely hitting has put them in a strong position. If they secure the next win, they will make history as the first team to lift the United Series trophy, capping a remarkable run in the league’s opening season.
