Saudi Arabia’s jiu-jitsu team increased its medal tally to nine at the Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Almaty, Kazakhstan, after securing two gold medals, one silver and one bronze in the men’s division on Friday.
Brothers Omar Nada and Abdullah Nada led the Kingdom’s latest medal haul, winning gold in the 94-kilogram and 85-kilogram categories respectively, according to the Saudi Jiu-Jitsu Federation.
Abdulmalek Al-Mardi added a silver medal in the 62-kilogram category, while Mohammed bin Huraimel claimed bronze in the 69-kilogram division.
The results strengthened Saudi Arabia’s position at the continental competition, with members of the senior national squad continuing to compete across different weight categories. The team also includes Ahmed Al-Issa, Osama Saleh and Issa Al-Shamisani, alongside other athletes representing the Kingdom.
Saudi Arabia had already collected five bronze medals earlier in the championship. One of those medals was won by Sultana Al-Dosari in the under-21 category, highlighting the country’s progress across both senior and younger age groups.
The 10th edition of the Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championship is being held at Almaty Arena from July 14 to 19, bringing together athletes from across Asia to compete for continental honours.
The latest success comes as Saudi Arabia continues to expand its presence in international jiu-jitsu competitions. The performances in Almaty reflect the growing depth of the national team, with athletes competing successfully in several weight divisions.
The two gold medals won by the Nada brothers were the standout results for the Saudi side on Friday, while Al-Mardi and bin Huraimel added further podium finishes to the team’s growing collection.
With the championship continuing until July 19, Saudi Arabia will have further opportunities to increase its medal tally as more athletes take part in the remaining events.
The strong showing in Kazakhstan adds to the Kingdom’s wider efforts to develop combat sports and provide athletes with greater opportunities to compete at major international events. The national team will now look to build on its nine-medal haul during the final stages of the championship.
