Leeds United booked their place in the FA Cup semi-finals after a dramatic penalty shootout win over West Ham United, with goalkeeper Lucas Perri emerging as the hero. The match ended 2-2 after extra time before Leeds secured a 4-2 victory on penalties.
Leeds took control early in the contest, with Ao Tanaka opening the scoring in the first half. The visitors extended their lead in the 75th minute when Dominic Calvert-Lewin converted from the penalty spot, putting them in a strong position heading into the final stages.
West Ham, however, mounted a late comeback in stoppage time. Mateus Fernandes pulled one back after reacting quickest to a rebound when Jarrod Bowen struck the crossbar. Just four minutes later, Axel Disasi found the equaliser, forcing the game into extra time and eventually penalties.
The drama continued before the shootout began when West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola appeared to suffer an injury and was unable to continue. His replacement, 20-year-old Finlay Herrick, was handed a first-team debut under intense pressure. Herrick made an immediate impact by saving Leeds striker Joel Piroe’s opening penalty.
Despite that early setback, Leeds regained control in the shootout thanks to Perri. The goalkeeper produced crucial saves to deny Bowen and Pablo, helping his side secure a place in the last four. Leeds now join Manchester City, Chelsea and Southampton in the semi-finals.
Elsewhere, in Scottish football, Celtic strengthened their push for the Premiership title with a 2-1 win over Dundee, closing the gap on leaders Hearts. The result at Dens Park leaves Celtic in third place, just three points behind the top spot.
Yang Hyun-jun gave Celtic an early lead, finishing off an attacking move in the eighth minute. Dundee struggled to create chances but found a way back into the match when Simon Murray converted a penalty in the 57th minute after a VAR review penalised a handball.
Celtic responded with renewed attacking intent and eventually found the winner through Kelechi Iheanacho, who scored his first goal in six months. The forward controlled a cross from Marcelo Saracchi before firing home from close range in the 82nd minute. Dundee’s hopes faded further when Ryan Astley was sent off late in the match.
In another key result, Hearts were held to a 2-2 draw by bottom-placed Livingston, missing an opportunity to extend their lead at the top. Despite goals from Lawrence Shankland and Claudio Braga, Hearts conceded a second equaliser in the 58th minute and were reduced to ten men in stoppage time after Marc Leonard was sent off.
Hearts manager Derek McInnes expressed frustration after the match, describing the result as two points lost and pointing to defensive errors that allowed Livingston back into the game.
