Trabzonspor Opens Transfer Talks With Mohamed Salah as Egyptian Star Heads to Türkiye

Turkish club Trabzonspor has confirmed it is in transfer negotiations with former Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah, with the Egyptian international expected to arrive in Türkiye on Wednesday to continue discussions over a possible move.

The Black Sea club announced on Tuesday that Salah would land at Istanbul Ataturk Airport at midday before travelling to Trabzon later in the evening. The club did not disclose further details about the proposed deal or the length of a potential contract.

The move would mark a new chapter in the career of one of Africa’s most accomplished footballers after he left Liverpool at the end of last season, bringing to an end a remarkable nine-year spell at Anfield.

During his time with the Premier League club, Salah established himself as one of Liverpool’s greatest players. He scored 257 goals in 442 appearances across all competitions, making him the third-highest scorer in the club’s history. His contributions helped Liverpool win the UEFA Champions League and two Premier League titles, along with several other domestic and international honours.

Salah also cemented his place among the Premier League’s all-time leading scorers. He has netted 193 league goals, including 191 for Liverpool, placing him fourth on the competition’s all-time scoring list behind Alan Shearer, Harry Kane and Wayne Rooney.

Despite his outstanding record, Salah endured a difficult final season at Liverpool. The 34-year-old scored seven league goals as the club struggled to maintain its usual standards during the campaign.

Trabzonspor had been linked with Salah in recent weeks, although reports also connected the Egyptian forward with fellow Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas. By publicly confirming negotiations, Trabzonspor has taken the first official step toward completing what would be one of the biggest transfers in Turkish football in recent years.

The club finished third in the Turkish Super Lig last season, ending the campaign nine points ahead of Besiktas. That result secured Trabzonspor a place in the UEFA Europa League play-off round, where the addition of a player with Salah’s experience could significantly strengthen the squad.

On the international stage, Salah remains Egypt’s most influential player. He has scored 66 goals in 119 appearances for his country and played a leading role in Egypt’s run to the last 16 of the FIFA World Cup, their best performance at the tournament since 1934. Their campaign ended in dramatic fashion after surrendering a two-goal lead in defeat to eventual finalists Argentina.

Should the negotiations prove successful, Salah would become one of the highest-profile players ever to join the Turkish Super Lig, bringing extensive experience from English and European football to Trabzonspor as the club prepares for domestic and continental competition.
