Cristiano Ronaldo continued his prolific form as he scored his 24th league goal of the season, guiding Al-Nassr to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Al-Okhdood and restoring their five-point cushion at the top of the Saudi Pro League with six matches remaining.
The Portuguese star opened the scoring early in the match, setting the tone for a controlled performance from the league leaders. João Félix added the second goal shortly after the break in the 47th minute, marking a strong return to form after ending a 14-match goal drought. The Portuguese midfielder has now scored three times in his last two appearances, suggesting a timely resurgence for Al-Nassr as the title race intensifies.
On paper, the result followed expectations. Al-Okhdood have struggled historically against top opposition, having conceded 21 goals across five consecutive defeats to Al-Nassr. Their narrow 3-2 loss late in 2024 remains one of their more competitive outings against the Riyadh giants.
However, the Najran-based side entered the fixture with a reputation for resilience in critical end-of-season periods. In the 2023–24 campaign, they lost just once in their final six matches to avoid relegation by a single point, while the following season saw them unbeaten in seven of their last 10 games to survive again by a narrow margin.
Their recent appointment of Fathi Al-Jabal, the coach who famously led Al-Fateh to a historic Saudi Pro League title in 2014, added further intrigue. Ironically, his debut match in charge ended with a 1-0 win over his former club, Al-Fateh, lifting Al-Okhdood clear of the drop zone.
Despite their improved organisation, Al-Okhdood found Al-Nassr difficult to contain. They deployed a compact 4-4-2 system that limited space in wide areas and disrupted passing lanes to key midfielders Angelo and Marcelo Brozović. For long stretches, they frustrated the hosts and blocked multiple attempts on goal.
Even so, Al-Nassr’s quality eventually broke through. Ronaldo’s opener came after a well-constructed move involving Kingsley Coman and Nawaf Bu Washl on the right flank. The forward finished clinically in the 15th minute, leaving goalkeeper Samuel Portugal with little chance.
After the interval, Al-Nassr doubled their advantage when Sadio Mané’s effort from the byline was parried into Félix’s path, allowing him a simple finish from close range.
A controversial moment followed when Mané’s sliding challenge on Mateo Borrell went unpunished, sparking debate amid growing scrutiny of officiating standards in the league. The Saudi Arabian Football Federation later confirmed that disciplinary and regulatory reviews are underway.
Al-Nassr remain top of the table with 73 points, ahead of Al-Hilal on 68 and Al-Ahli on 66, setting up a tense finish with key upcoming fixtures against both rivals in late April and early May.
