Dubai residents facing high electricity and water bills can use a range of digital tools from Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) to monitor consumption and identify ways to reduce household costs.
DEWA’s Smart Living initiative allows customers to access detailed information about their utility bills, review applicable tariff slabs and track electricity and water consumption over different periods. The platform provides daily, weekly and monthly usage trends, giving households a clearer picture of how their consumption changes over time.
A key feature of the initiative is the Consumption Assessment Tool, which helps customers understand how their lifestyle and household characteristics affect utility use. Users are asked to provide information about their consumption habits, property, number of occupants and electrical appliances used at home.
After completing the assessment, customers receive a report showing their household consumption profile. The report also includes recommendations and practical guidance tailored to the characteristics of their property and usage patterns.
The tool is designed to help residents identify areas where they can reduce consumption and improve efficiency. Simple changes in daily habits, appliance use and water consumption can help households manage their bills while supporting more sustainable use of resources.
DEWA also provides a High Water Usage Alert service to help customers identify possible water leaks. The service sends notifications when it detects an unusual increase in water consumption.
Such alerts can help residents investigate potential leaks quickly and arrange repairs before significant amounts of water are wasted. Early action can also prevent unexpected increases in utility bills.
Another feature available to customers is Away Mode. It is designed for residents who leave their homes for extended periods and want to continue monitoring consumption while they are away.
Through Away Mode, customers can receive regular consumption reports and alerts by email. Reports can be received daily or weekly, allowing residents to check whether their homes are using unusual amounts of electricity or water in their absence.
Unexplained consumption during an extended absence could indicate that appliances have been left running, equipment is malfunctioning or a water leak has developed.
The digital services are part of DEWA’s wider efforts to encourage customers to monitor their utility use and adopt more efficient practices. Rather than waiting until a high bill arrives, residents can use consumption data and alerts to identify changes as they occur.
For households looking to control rising utility costs, the tools provide a way to track usage, understand consumption patterns and take action when electricity or water use begins to increase.
