UAE Airlines Suspend and Reroute Flights Amid Regional Tensions

UAE Airlines Suspend and Reroute Flights Amid Regional Tensions

Several UAE-based airlines suspended or rerouted flights on Saturday amid escalating regional tensions, causing disruptions for passengers bound for Jordan, Iran, Iraq, Israel, and Lebanon.

Dubai-based carrier flydubai confirmed that flights to Jordan, Iran, Iraq, and Israel were canceled on Saturday, with some flights diverted due to the unrest. An airline spokesperson told Khaleej Times, “We will continue to closely monitor the situation in the region and amend our flight schedule accordingly.” Passengers affected by these changes have been advised to contact the flydubai contact center or their respective travel agents for rebooking and refund options.

This precautionary move by flydubai follows reports from Israeli authorities that military sites in Iran were struck early Saturday in response to Tehran’s earlier attacks on Israel this month.

In Abu Dhabi, Etihad Airways also took measures to reroute several flights, citing “airspace restrictions in parts of the Middle East.” The airline warned passengers of potential delays over the coming 48 hours, with an Etihad spokesperson saying, “Safety is always our highest priority, and we would never operate a flight unless it was safe to do so.” Passengers are urged to check the status of their flights on Etihad’s website, where updates will be continuously provided as the situation evolves. Passengers seeking to alter travel plans can contact Etihad Airways directly or consult their travel agents for assistance.

Emirates, the flagship carrier of the UAE, has taken similar steps, suspending flights to Baghdad and Tehran until October 30. A spokesperson announced that passengers transiting through Dubai with final destinations in Baghdad and Tehran will not be permitted to travel until that date. Additionally, Emirates has extended its suspension of flights to Beirut until October 31, with passengers affected by these suspensions advised to check the status of their flights and make alternative travel arrangements as necessary.

The changes to UAE flight schedules reflect a growing emphasis on passenger safety amid mounting geopolitical tensions in the region.
