The United Arab Emirates ended its 2026 Jiu-Jitsu World Championship campaign on Sunday with two world titles after a nine-day competition at Mubadala Arena in Abu Dhabi.
More than 1,500 athletes from around the world took part across different age groups and disciplines, with the UAE collecting 65 medals. The hosts won 18 gold, 17 silver and 30 bronze medals during the championship.
The UAE Adult team produced one of the tournament’s strongest performances, securing the Newaza world title and finishing first in the overall Adult standings. The overall ranking combined results from Contact Jiu-Jitsu, Fighting, Duo, Show and Newaza.
The UAE competed only in Newaza for the Adult competition but still topped the combined standings, highlighting the strength of its athletes in the discipline.
The U-21 team added another world title by finishing first in the Newaza competition. The result underlined the development of younger UAE athletes as they continue progressing toward senior international competition.
The championship concluded with the Para Jiu-Jitsu and team events on Sunday.
Abdulmunem Alsayed Mohammed Alhashmi, chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation, praised the national team and credited the country’s leadership for supporting the sport.
He said the results demonstrated the progress made by UAE athletes and reflected a wider commitment to developing talent and producing successful competitors.
Omar Al-Fadhli contributed to the Adult team’s success by winning gold in the under-69kg division. He said the medal carried added significance because it formed part of the team’s overall achievement at a World Championship.
Al-Fadhli also said competing at the highest level required athletes to remain focused throughout every match and adapt to different opponents. He added that the victory reflected the experience he had gained over several years of competition and increased his motivation to continue improving.
Asma Al-Hosani won the Adult under-52kg gold medal and said competing in front of a home crowd made the achievement particularly meaningful.
She said reaching the final required athletes to remain calm and follow the preparation developed during training. The victory, she added, gave her greater confidence while motivating her to raise her performance at future competitions.
The World Championship results extend a strong year for UAE jiu-jitsu. At the Asian Championships, the UAE won the Adult division and collected 55 medals across four age categories.
The latest results give the national team further momentum as it continues developing athletes across different age groups and strengthening the country’s position in international jiu-jitsu.
