Real Madrid Signs Spain Defender Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth in €66 Million Deal

Real Madrid Signs Spain Defender Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth in €66 Million Deal

Real Madrid has completed its first major signing of the summer, securing the services of promising Spain international Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth in a deal reportedly worth £50 million (€66.4 million). The 20-year-old center back has signed a five-year contract with the Spanish giants, keeping him at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 2030.

Huijsen, born in the Netherlands but recently capped by Spain, has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the past year. After joining Bournemouth from Juventus last summer for a reported £12.5 million, he quickly established himself as a key figure in the Premier League side’s defense, earning plaudits for his composure on the ball and ability to read the game.

His performances caught the attention of Spain national team selectors, leading to his debut in the UEFA Nations League playoffs in March. Huijsen featured off the bench in the first leg against the Netherlands and started the return fixture, further underlining his growing stature in European football.

With several top Premier League clubs — including Arsenal and Liverpool — reportedly monitoring his progress, Real Madrid acted swiftly to secure the talented defender’s signature. The deal also represents a significant financial windfall for Bournemouth, who will make a substantial profit just one year after acquiring him.

Real Madrid’s decision to invest heavily in Huijsen comes after a disappointing 2024–25 season that saw the club finish without silverware. The Spanish side struggled with a string of defensive injuries and is looking to rejuvenate its backline ahead of the new campaign.

Known for his ability to play out from the back and his towering presence, Huijsen fits the profile of a modern center back and is seen as a long-term solution to Madrid’s defensive issues.

The move also highlights Madrid’s commitment to investing in emerging talent, as the club continues to blend young prospects with its established stars. Huijsen will join a squad looking to reclaim domestic and European dominance under renewed pressure after a lackluster season.

His arrival marks the beginning of what could be a busy transfer window for the Spanish powerhouse as it looks to reshape its squad and bounce back in 2025–26.
