Paris Saint-Germain secured a 3-1 home victory over Le Mans on Saturday, with Maghnes Akliouche scoring his first goal for the club, while Ligue 1 leaders AS Monaco surrendered a two-goal advantage to draw 2-2 against Toulouse.
PSG’s victory lifted the defending champions to fifth place with 11 points from six matches. Monaco remained top with 14 points, holding a one-point advantage over Lille.
The match at PSG’s home ground was briefly overshadowed by protests amid student demonstrations across France. A banner reading “Your riot police repress, our youth resists” was displayed in the stadium, prompting scuffles as police attempted to remove it. The entire stand was temporarily evacuated.
On the pitch, Lucas Beraldo gave PSG the lead from the penalty spot. Le Mans responded after the break when Louis Mafouta struck powerfully to register his fourth Ligue 1 goal of the season.
PSG coach Luis Enrique responded by making four substitutions shortly before the hour mark. One of those changes proved decisive as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored two minutes after entering the game, reacting quickest to a rebound to restore the hosts’ lead.
Akliouche then sealed the win with his first goal for PSG since joining from Monaco at the start of the season. PSG earned another penalty in stoppage time, but goalkeeper Nicolas Kocik saved Desire Doue’s effort.
Monaco surrender two-goal lead
Monaco missed the opportunity to strengthen their position at the top after allowing Toulouse to recover from a 2-0 deficit.
Edan Diop opened the scoring for Monaco before setting up Matthis Abline, who scored his first goal for the club following his move from Nantes.
Toulouse responded after the interval when Casper Tengstedt converted a penalty. Teenage forward Sion Oppong then scored his first goal for Toulouse to complete the comeback and secure a point for the visitors.
The draw left Monaco on 14 points, while Lille remained close behind after claiming a narrow home win against Le Havre.
Dilane Bakwa scored in the fifth minute to give Lille a 1-0 victory. Le Havre’s task became more difficult when Ayumu Seko was sent off shortly after the hour mark for a professional foul.
Lille briefly moved to the top of the standings before Monaco’s later result left the principality club in first place.
Lorient and Brest record victories
Paris FC remained fourth despite a 1-0 defeat away to Lorient, staying above local rivals PSG on goal difference. Paris FC enjoyed more possession but failed to convert it into a goal, while Gabin Bernardeau scored Lorient’s winner in the 68th minute.
Brest produced one of the weekend’s most convincing performances, beating Angers 5-1 after scoring four goals in the first half.
Ludovic Ajorque, Lucas Tousart, Kenny Lala, Mama Balde and Pathe Mboup were on target for Brest. Prosper Peter scored Angers’ consolation goal, while the visitors played with 10 men after Jordan Lefort was sent off in the 59th minute.
The latest results kept the race near the top of Ligue 1 tight, with Monaco maintaining their lead despite dropping points and PSG moving closer to the leading sides.
