Wyndham Clark produced a stunning final-round charge to win the CJ Cup Byron Nelson on Sunday, firing an 11-under-par 60 to claim victory by three strokes and become the first player in PGA Tour history to secure two wins with a closing 60.
The 2023 US Open champion surged past overnight leader Si Woo Kim and defending champion Scottie Scheffler at TPC Craig Ranch near Dallas, finishing at 30-under-par 254 for his fourth PGA Tour title and his first since last year’s Pebble Beach triumph.
Clark entered the final round tied with world number one Scheffler and faced a two-shot deficit behind Kim. Yet he remained aggressive throughout the day, producing nine birdies and an eagle in a fearless display that featured a remarkable 28 on the back nine.
His decisive moment came on the par-5 12th, where an eagle pushed him into the lead for the first time. Clark then delivered clutch birdies down the stretch, including a dramatic 45-foot putt at the par-3 15th that sparked an emotional fist pump.
Another birdie at the stadium-style 17th extended his advantage before he capped the round in style at the final hole. Rather than playing conservatively with victory nearly secured, Clark attacked the flag and hit his approach to within three feet, setting up a closing birdie.
“I felt pretty comfortable, but I knew I had to keep making birdies,” Clark said. “I was still very aggressive and didn’t sit back.”
The victory carried extra significance for Clark, whose previous closing 60 came at Pebble Beach in 2024 when severe weather wiped out the scheduled final round and left officials to declare him the winner after 54 holes.
That earlier triumph nearly featured a historic 59 before Clark settled for birdie at the last. At Craig Ranch, the score was never his main focus.
“This one, 59 wasn’t really in the cards,” Clark said. “I’m proud that I didn’t waver.”
Kim, who shot a second-round 60 and started Sunday with a two-shot lead, finished with a 65 to end at 27 under. The South Korean briefly stayed within reach but missed a lengthy birdie chance on the 15th and could not match Clark’s late scoring run.
“I’m a little frustrated, but Wyndham played so good,” said Kim, still seeking his first tour victory since 2023.
Scheffler, playing in front of home supporters and attempting to defend his title, also carded a 65 but settled for third at 25 under. The four-time major champion never fully recovered after falling behind early and missed a chance to stay in contention when a promising approach at the sixth struck the pin and spun away.
Jackson Suber finished fourth at 23 under after a career-best 63, while Keith Mitchell placed fifth. Brooks Koepka shot 68 as he continued his search for a first victory since returning to the PGA Tour, and hometown favourite Jordan Spieth closed with a 66 to finish 15 under.
