With the advancements of gaming technology in the modern era, it’s now possible to punt from pretty much anywhere and at any time. Hardly ground-breaking news but when you sit back and truly think about it, it’s quite amazing and certainly beneficial to the seasoned gambler.
Perhaps the popularity in online gambling has increased owing to the fact users are able to bet remotely, often from the comfort of their own homes. However, those of you who like to try your luck at the local casino and have become accustomed to their ways – Leeds City Council have remained true to land-based casino customers.
What’s the story?
The Grosvenor Casino in Leeds has recently been granted an extension to their gambling license, which will mean that two betting terminals will be added to the establishment’s an outside smoking area. The application was passed at a recent Leeds City Council meeting, but it’s not yet known when the machines will be added.
The council’s sub-committee have confirmed that they will look to increase the total number of terminals to no more than four, but it depends on how successful the first two gaming machines are. In a nutshell, customers who pop out for a quick smoke can now enjoy a flutter whilst they do so. It’s hard to see the betting terminals not being a big hit.
How will this benefit?
The most obvious benefit – to the casino and punter alike – is that players can continue to bet even when they are technically outside of the casino. It’s certainly a trend that could see a number of other land-based casinos follow suit, but much will hinge on the outcome of the Leeds Grosvenor’s new ploy.
Perhaps the biggest benefit is that the betting terminals are only allowed to be played in the licensing section of the smoking area, meaning that those who do just want to take a step-back from punting temporarily can do so. The Grosvenor wanted to extend it to the whole smoking area, but the licensed section will more than suffice.
Will others follow suit?
It’s nigh-on impossible that other casinos won’t introduce similar measures in their establishments. There’s a period of uncertainty surrounding the long-term future of land-based casinos and although overall attendances aren’t declining as much as perhaps predicted, it’ll help swing the pendulum back in the favor of traditional casinos.
Thinking about it from the wider perspective, it’s a straightforward and simple enough idea that’ll go a long way in helping casinos keep their numbers up and ultimately, help boost profits. Admittedly, local councils will have to pass any potential applications but the ease of Leeds’ extension indicates others shouldn’t have any major issues.
