Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, held a meeting today with Sigrid Kaag, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza, as part of her official visit to Qatar. The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation between Qatar and the UN, as well as addressing urgent issues surrounding the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Key topics included ongoing challenges in Gaza and the broader occupied Palestinian territories, amid escalated conflict and humanitarian needs. Both leaders emphasized the importance of facilitating unobstructed delivery of aid to Gaza, where food, medical supplies, and other essential resources are critically needed. Discussions also covered the latest developments in the region and highlighted Qatar’s active role in supporting international diplomatic efforts to establish a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Sheikh Mohammed and Kaag explored pathways for stronger collaboration between Qatar and the UN to streamline aid and reconstruction processes. Qatar has remained engaged in efforts to deliver humanitarian relief to Gaza and has previously pledged aid packages aimed at alleviating the suffering of civilians affected by the ongoing conflict. Both leaders agreed on the need for coordinated action to ensure aid reaches the population safely and effectively.

The meeting follows recent calls from international bodies for increased support and an urgent response to the worsening humanitarian conditions in Gaza. Kaag, who plays a leading role in UN reconstruction efforts for the region, underscored the need for sustained and multi-faceted international cooperation to address immediate needs and plan for long-term rebuilding. She also expressed appreciation for Qatar’s contributions and reiterated the UN’s commitment to supporting the people of Gaza and working towards a sustainable and peaceful resolution to the crisis.

Regional and global efforts to mediate a ceasefire were also on the agenda. Both leaders discussed Qatar’s potential role in facilitating dialogue among key stakeholders to reduce violence and open avenues for a political solution that could contribute to lasting stability. They highlighted the importance of diplomatic intervention and active coordination to foster peace and address humanitarian needs comprehensively.

The meeting marks a continuation of Qatar’s diplomatic efforts to engage with international organizations and address pressing issues in the Middle East. Qatar has often been at the forefront of initiatives to support conflict-affected areas through aid and reconstruction efforts and has played a significant role in promoting regional stability and humanitarian outreach.

As humanitarian needs in Gaza continue to escalate, Qatar and the UN are expected to deepen their cooperation in support of immediate relief efforts and future reconstruction.
