UAE Endures Intense Heat and Surprise Rainfall Amid Shifting Weather Patterns

UAE Endures Intense Heat and Surprise Rainfall Amid Shifting Weather Patterns

The United Arab Emirates experienced dramatic weather fluctuations this week, with scorching heat, unexpected rainfall, and gusty winds impacting several regions, according to the National Center of Meteorology (NCM).

The country’s lowest recorded temperature early Sunday was 27.1°C in the mountainous area of Jais, Ras Al Khaimah, while the highest soared to 49.6°C in Mezaira, Al Dhafra, by mid-afternoon. In addition to the extreme heat, light rain fell over parts of Ras Al Khaimah, including Showkah and Wadi Isfay.

The NCM has issued a five-day weather forecast beginning Sunday, warning of continued high temperatures, dusty winds, and intermittent cloud cover. These conditions are linked to a surface low-pressure system stretching from the East, combined with a weak upper-air disturbance, meteorologists said.

Sunday Forecast – July 27

The weather is expected to remain fair to partly cloudy, with a chance of convective clouds forming in the eastern and southern parts of the country. These could bring scattered showers. Winds will generally be light to moderate but may intensify near cloud activity, leading to blowing dust and reduced visibility.

Temperature ranges for Sunday:

  • Coastal areas: Highs of 42°C to 47°C; lows of 29°C to 33°C

  • Inland regions: Highs of 44°C to 49°C; lows of 27°C to 32°C

  • Mountainous areas: Highs of 36°C to 41°C; lows of 26°C to 31°C
Humidity is expected to peak between 70% and 90% in coastal and mountainous areas.

Weekly Outlook

  • Monday, July 28: Similar conditions are forecast, with continued chances of convective clouds and possible rain in eastern and southern areas. Winds will blow at 10–25 km/h, with gusts reaching 40 km/h.

  • Tuesday, July 29: Cloud development persists, with winds shifting to north-westerly at speeds up to 40 km/h. The Arabian Gulf may see slight to moderate waves.

  • Wednesday, July 30: Partly cloudy in the East with occasional dusty winds in open areas. Seas are expected to remain calm.

  • Thursday, July 31: Temperatures stay high with fair to partly cloudy skies. Winds from the southwest will shift to northwest, increasing in strength and stirring up dust in western regions. Rough seas are anticipated in the western Arabian Gulf.

Authorities urge residents to monitor updates from official sources and take necessary precautions during periods of extreme heat and reduced visibility.
