Two Arrested Over Suspected Antisemitic Arson Attack on Ambulances in London

Two Arrested Over Suspected Antisemitic Arson Attack on Ambulances in London

British police have arrested two men in connection with a suspected antisemitic arson attack that targeted four Jewish community ambulances in north London earlier this week.

Authorities said on Wednesday that the suspects, aged 47 and 45, were detained at separate addresses in northwest and central London. Both men remain in police custody as investigations continue into the incident, which took place in the early hours of Monday.

The ambulances were set on fire in what officials described as a deliberate attack. No injuries were reported, but the destruction of emergency vehicles serving the local Jewish community has raised alarm. Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the incident, calling it a “deeply shocking antisemitic arson attack.”

Police said earlier that they were examining a possible link to Iran, though no definitive connection has been established. Investigators believe more individuals may have been involved, with CCTV footage indicating at least three people were present at the scene. Officers are continuing to review evidence and appeal for further information from the public.

An increased police presence has been deployed in affected areas of north London as a precautionary measure. Authorities said the move is aimed at reassuring local residents and preventing further incidents while the investigation is ongoing.

The attack comes at a time of growing concern in the United Kingdom over rising antisemitism. Jewish community leaders have repeatedly called for stronger protections and vigilance, particularly in light of heightened geopolitical tensions.

Security agencies have also warned about potential threats linked to Iran, including allegations of surveillance or targeting of Jewish sites. Tehran has denied these accusations. British officials have not confirmed any direct involvement by a foreign state in this case, but say all lines of inquiry remain open.

The destruction of the ambulances has drawn widespread condemnation from political leaders and community groups, who have described the attack as both dangerous and deeply troubling. Emergency vehicles are considered critical infrastructure, and their targeting has heightened concerns about public safety as well as hate-motivated crime.

Police have urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward, as efforts continue to identify all those responsible. Investigators said ensuring accountability remains a priority, alongside maintaining security for communities that may feel at risk following the attack.
