Trump to Meet Macron in New York During UN General Assembly

US President Donald Trump is due to meet French President Emmanuel Macron in New York on Monday as both leaders attend the United Nations General Assembly, according to the White House.

The meeting is scheduled for 5:35pm local time, or 2135 GMT, according to Trump’s official schedule released on Sunday evening.

The talks will take place as world leaders gather in New York for the annual UN General Assembly, which brings together senior government officials from countries around the world to discuss major international issues.

Macron is travelling to New York from Saint Pierre and Miquelon, a small French overseas territory located off Canada’s Atlantic coast. He was there for talks with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

The meeting with Trump comes as France and the United States continue to engage on a range of international issues, including the war in Ukraine, developments in the Middle East, trade and broader transatlantic relations.

Macron is also scheduled to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

The meeting with Zelensky is expected to provide an opportunity for the French and Ukrainian leaders to discuss the war in Ukraine and continuing international support for Kyiv.

Trump and Macron have previously held discussions on Ukraine and European security, while differences have emerged between Washington and several European governments over the handling of the conflict and the future of US involvement.

The two leaders’ meeting in New York comes during a busy period of diplomatic activity at the UN, with governments seeking to address conflicts and other international challenges.

The White House has not provided details of the agenda for Monday’s Trump-Macron meeting. The timing of the talks was included in the US president’s public schedule.

Macron’s visit to New York forms part of his wider diplomatic programme during the UN gathering. His meeting with Carney in Saint Pierre and Miquelon also comes as France and Canada seek to maintain close ties on economic, security and international issues.
