Singaporean confesses to spying for China in US

A man from Singapore has confessed to working as a Chinese spy in the United States. This is the latest development in the escalating conflict between Washington and Beijing in recent days. In another development, the United States said a Chinese researcher had been detained on suspicion of having links to the Chinese military.

Singaporean confesses to spying for China in US

Earlier, China ordered the closure of the US consulate in Chengdu. The decision to close the US diplomatic mission in the southwestern city of Chengdu came in response to the closure of the Chinese consulate in Houston. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the decision was made because China was “stealing” intellectual property.

Tensions are rising between the world’s two major nuclear powers over a number of key issues. President Donald Trump’s administration is in constant conflict with Beijing over trade and the coronavirus pandemic. The two also clash over the implementation of a controversial security law by China in Hong Kong.
