The Embassy of India in Kuwait officially launched its e-visa service for Kuwaiti citizens on Sunday, July 13, marking a significant milestone in enhancing travel convenience and strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
The fully digital visa application system was unveiled during a press conference led by India’s Ambassador to Kuwait, Dr. Adarsh Swaika, who described the move as a “crucial development” aimed at expanding access to India and fostering closer people-to-people ties. “This initiative aligns with India’s vision of expanding access and enhancing digital service delivery,” he said.
The e-visa facility is available under five categories: tourism, business, medical, Ayush-yoga, and conference. Kuwaiti applicants can now complete the entire visa process online via the official Indian visa portal, eliminating the need for in-person visits to the embassy.
Flexible Validity and Quick Processing
Depending on the visa type, the validity ranges from 60 days for medical visas to up to five years for tourist visas. Business visas are valid for up to one year. Processing typically takes between three to four business days, with application fees varying from $40 to $80.
Supporting documents must be uploaded through the online platform. However, biometric fingerprinting will be conducted at Indian airports for Kuwaiti nationals using the e-visa system.
Paper Visa Option Remains Available
Ambassador Swaika confirmed that while the e-visa is now operational, the embassy will continue accepting traditional paper visa applications for those who prefer the conventional method.
Wide Range of Permitted Activities
The e-visa covers various short-term activities, including tourism, visiting friends or relatives, attending yoga programs, short-term informal courses, volunteering, medical treatments, and participating in business or academic events. It also allows attendants to accompany medical visa holders.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, applicants must hold a valid passport with at least six months’ validity, possess a return or onward ticket, and demonstrate adequate financial means for their stay. The e-visa is not applicable to holders of Pakistani passports or those of Pakistani origin, diplomatic or official passport holders, or individuals traveling on non-passport documents.
Part of Broader Digital Diplomacy Push
India’s new e-visa initiative is part of a broader push to modernize consular services, boost tourism, and promote medical and educational travel. Ambassador Swaika expressed optimism that more Kuwaitis will now explore India’s diverse offerings.
Kuwait is one of over 170 countries whose nationals are eligible to apply for an Indian e-visa, reflecting New Delhi’s growing commitment to digital inclusion and global engagement.
