The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has announced plans to install new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in the first quarter of 2025, as part of its partnership with Parkin Company PJSC (Parkin), Dubai’s largest paid public parking provider.
According to a WAM report, the stations will operate on alternating current (AC) with a capacity of 22 kilowatts each and will be strategically placed at key parking locations managed by Parkin. Each station will serve two parking spaces, enhancing accessibility for EV users across the city.
Strategic Locations for EV Chargers
The new chargers will be installed at on-street parking locations in zones A and C, areas selected for their proximity to high-density residential communities with limited access to EV charging facilities.
In a move to enhance convenience, customers will be able to pay for both EV charging and parking fees in a single transaction through Parkin’s digital wallet and mobile app.
This collaboration is expected to significantly increase the number of DEWA’s EV Green Charger stations, making it easier for residents and commuters to access charging infrastructure while maximizing the efficiency of parking spaces.
Expanding DEWA’s EV Green Charger Network
DEWA currently operates around 740 EV Green Chargers across Dubai, with a target of reaching 1,000 charging stations by the end of 2024.
Launched in 2014, the EV Green Charger initiative is a key pillar of Dubai’s efforts to promote green mobility and reduce carbon emissions from the transport sector.
Officials Highlight Dubai’s Commitment to Green Mobility
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, emphasized that the initiative aligns with Dubai’s Green Mobility Strategy 2030 and Dubai Social Agenda 33, both of which aim to position Dubai as a global leader in sustainability.
“We continue to strengthen green mobility by promoting the use of eco-friendly electric vehicles to reduce carbon emissions from the transport sector,” said Al Tayer.
“Our partnership with Parkin to install EV Green Chargers is part of our efforts to provide advanced EV charging infrastructure in Dubai. These initiatives support the UAE’s climate goals and reinforce Dubai’s position as a leading global destination to live, work, and invest in.”
Eng. Mohamed Al Ali, CEO of Parkin, highlighted Parkin’s role in facilitating Dubai’s transition to EV adoption.
“The installation of green chargers in key locations will enhance our world-class facilities, unlock new growth opportunities, and incentivize EV adoption,” said Al Ali.
“With unique operational capabilities and a shared vision to enable sustainable mobility, Parkin and DEWA are committed to expanding EV infrastructure in our city, directly supporting the environmental, social, and mobility ambitions of our wise leadership.”
A Step Toward a Sustainable Future
The expansion of EV charging stations in Dubai reflects the UAE’s broader commitment to sustainability, supporting national climate goals and fostering an eco-friendly transport network.
With the demand for electric vehicles growing rapidly, DEWA’s initiative ensures that Dubai remains at the forefront of global green mobility efforts, creating a smarter, cleaner, and more sustainable urban environment.
