How to Create a Welcoming Reception Area

How to Create a Welcoming Reception Area

Research says that we only have 1/10 of a second to make a good first impression.

If you’re a small business, that means many of your clients form their first impression of you based on your reception area. That means a welcoming reception area can make or break their impression of you.

Does that worry you? It shouldn’t! We’ve got everything you need to learn how to create a welcoming reception area.

Design a Reception Area Layout

Start by imagining a reception area design that is warm and inviting. How many chairs does it have? Is there a sofa? Is the bookshelf in the corner, or by the window? Where is the coffee table?

The answers to these questions, of course, depending on the demands of your space. But there are still some principles you should follow no matter what.

Make sure the reception area is uncluttered. Instead of two bookshelves, just include one. Get a small sofa instead of a large one. Remember that uncluttered, minimalist spaces are calming and relaxing.

On the other hand, you should also have enough furniture to fill the space. Give your clients enough room to spread out and get comfy. Clutter is uncomfortable, but so is a sofa with too many people on it!

Think About Lighting

People love natural lighting. Our bodies crave sunlight, and so natural light makes us feel at home and healthy.

In the same vein, fluorescent lighting is cold and clinical. Bright white LED lights tend to make people feel uncomfortable and anxious. You should avoid fluorescent lighting.

But you also need a balance. If all the lighting in your reception area comes from a large window, the room will be too dark on winter evenings. Balance warm, golden lamps and overhead lights with natural window light.

Choose the Right Color Palette

The important thing is that the colors in your reception area don’t clash. Avoid color combinations like purple and yellow or blue and orange. These combos may make great t-shirts, but they make terrible reception areas.

Choose calming color combinations that make your clients feel peaceful. For example, blue and green make a beautiful and natural color combination. They are found together in nature and have a calming effect.

Red and orange are also a great color combination. Together, they create an environment that is warm and inviting.

Fill Your Space With Plants

Everyone loves plants, and for good reason! Plants provide natural color, brighten up the room, and make us feel more peaceful. Any beautiful and modern reception area is filled with lots of greenery.

Fake plants will give your reception area an artificial feeling. If you want to give the room authentic, homey energy, buy real plants and flowers from local florists like www.phillips-flowers.com.

Enjoy Your Welcoming Reception Area

Your clients will love your beautiful and welcoming reception area. Just don’t forget to combine these reception area ideas with happy, smiling employees! Even the best reception area is nothing without a warm welcome.
