It is common knowledge that around two-thirds of the world consists of water, which means that taking care of the earth’s water should be a responsibility of everyone around the globe. When microorganisms and chemical materials create water pollution, they possibly make it toxic.
When discussing the issues that can appear due to water pollution, there are three major areas to consider:
Health:
According to the United Nations, there are more deaths every year caused by polluted water than all kinds of assault combined, along with conflict. Waste from humans and animals that poison water carries bacteria and viruses that cause the spread of diseases such as typhoid cholera and giardia.
Environment:
All the species in a grassland depend on water to survive. However, outside materials, such as pollutants found in wastewater, can disturb the relationships between species to survive.Â
Economy:
Polluted water can have many negative issues on the economy. It directly impacts sectors such as commercial fishing, recreational businesses, journey, and even property appreciation, which depend heavily on clean water. Polluted drinking water can also cause treatment costs to increase, which makes the cost of drinking water increase.
But what are the causes of water pollution, and what can we concerning them?
Causes of water pollution
Water is one of the essential elements on earth for lasting life. But, unfortunately, it is also almightily affected by pollution. It is because water is a universal solvent that can disappear many materials. Therefore, there are many causes of water pollution.
1 Industrial waste
Industries and industrial sites crosswise the world are significant contributors to water pollution. Many industrial sites produce waste in the form of toxic chemicals and pollutants, and through coordination, some still do not have proper waste management systems in place. In those limited cases, if industrial waste is not treated correctly, it can very quickly pollute the freshwater systems that it comes into association with.Â
Industrial waste from agricultural sites, mines, and manufacturing plants can make its way into rivers, streams, and other bodies of water that foremost directly to the sea. This needs dam cleaning.
2 Marine dumping
The process of marine dumping is full of what it sounds like, dumping garbage into the ocean’s waters. It might seem insane, but household garbage is still collected and dumped into oceans by many countries worldwide.
3 Sewage and wastewater
Harmful chemicals, bacteria, and pathogens can be found in sewage and wastewater. Sewage and wastewater from each household go into the sea with fresh water.
4 oil leaks and spills
While often accidental, large oil spills and oil leaks are significant causes of water pollution. Leaks and spills are often caused by oil drilling affairs in the ocean or ships transporting oil.
5 Agriculture
Farmers often use chemicals and pesticides to protect
their crops from bacteria and insects. However, when these materials seep into the groundwater, they can harm animals, plants, and humans.
6 Global warming
Rising temperature due to global warming is a big contributor to water pollution. In addition, global warming causes the water temperature to increase continuously, which can kill water-dwelling animals.
