The UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation has announced that 85 Emirati athletes will represent the nation at the 2025 Asian Jiu-Jitsu Cup (U-14) and the 2025 Asian Jiu-Jitsu Youth Championship. The delegation includes 20 athletes competing in the U-14 category and 65 athletes in youth divisions, reflecting the country’s commitment to nurturing young talent in the sport.

Following a stellar performance at the 2024 Asian Jiu-Jitsu Youth Championship held in Abu Dhabi, where the UAE team secured 41 medals—including 11 gold, eight silver, and 22 bronze—the federation is optimistic about another strong showing in 2025.

Fahad Ali Al-Shamsi, Secretary-General of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, emphasized the significance of the championship in shaping the future of Emirati athletes. “The Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championship is one of the most prestigious events we participate in every year, showcasing the UAE’s leadership in the sport across the continent. It also provides a key platform to evaluate the progress of our youth athletes and their readiness to excel on the global stage,” he said.

Al-Shamsi reiterated the federation’s dedication to youth development, highlighting that competitions at the junior level are crucial in preparing athletes for future international success. “Youth competitions are central to the federation’s strategy, as they represent the future of jiu-jitsu in the UAE. We remain dedicated to identifying and nurturing young talent through world-class training and coaching programs,” he added.

Pedro Damasceno, head coach of the UAE national team, expressed confidence in the squad’s capabilities. “We have carefully assembled a strong team, blending experienced athletes with fresh talent. The team is following an intensive training program and is fully committed to performing at its best in the upcoming championships,” he said. “The athletes are showing great confidence and dedication, and we look forward to seeing them shine on the continental stage once again.”

The UAE’s sustained success in jiu-jitsu has been attributed to the country’s robust sports development programs and investment in grassroots initiatives. With a growing reputation as a powerhouse in the sport, the UAE will aim to build on its previous triumphs and further cement its position as a dominant force in Asian jiu-jitsu.
