The United Arab Emirates’ Attorney-General, Dr Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, has issued a stern warning to the public against photographing, publishing, or circulating images and videos depicting sites affected by projectiles or shrapnel.
Speaking to the media, Al Shamsi stressed that sharing such material, or spreading inaccurate information, could trigger public panic and create a misleading perception of the country’s situation. He noted that competent state institutions are performing their duties effectively to ensure the safety of the community, and that daily life across the country continues as normal. Authorities are implementing all necessary measures to manage developments efficiently, according to a report by WAM, the UAE state news agency.
The attorney-general highlighted that despite repeated advisories, some individuals continue to film incident locations and share the footage on social media platforms. He said that publishing or circulating such images or videos, or disseminating false information, constitutes a violation of the law if it incites public panic, spreads misinformation, or threatens public order. Citizens and residents who fail to comply with these regulations face legal accountability under existing legislation.
Al Shamsi also cautioned against producing or sharing fabricated content, including videos created with artificial intelligence or digital manipulation. This includes footage falsely claiming missile strikes, attacks on infrastructure, or events that did not occur. He reaffirmed that deliberately misleading the public through such content is a criminal offense and warned that the Public Prosecution will take strict legal action against offenders.
The attorney-general urged residents to rely solely on official sources for information and emphasized the importance of preserving national security and stability. He noted that refraining from filming or resharing content related to incidents allows authorities to manage situations more efficiently and maintain public trust.
Authorities have repeatedly stressed that the UAE maintains a robust system to handle emergency situations and that any deliberate attempt to distort facts or amplify fear undermines public confidence. Al Shamsi’s statement serves as a reminder that legal measures are in place to deter misinformation and to ensure that the public receives accurate updates during sensitive incidents.
Residents are encouraged to follow official channels for updates on safety, security, and government advisories. Officials said that by avoiding the circulation of unauthorized images or videos, the community can support authorities in their efforts to safeguard stability and protect the country from potential risks.
