The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Italy have signed three memoranda of understanding (MoUs) to strengthen collaboration in pharmaceuticals, minerals, and digital infrastructure, including artificial intelligence (AI) and data centres. The agreements aim to foster investment, innovation, and knowledge exchange, reinforcing decades of bilateral ties between the two nations.

The MoUs were signed by Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, UAE Minister of Investment, and Adolfo Urso, Italian Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy.

“Our collaboration with Italy underscores the strength of our bilateral relationship and our shared commitment to sustainable economic growth,” said Alsuwaidi. “These agreements mark a milestone in advancing healthcare, energy transition, and digital transformation, reflecting the UAE’s dedication to fostering forward-looking partnerships that drive mutual prosperity while addressing global challenges.”

Urso highlighted the potential benefits of the agreements, stating, “By fostering collaboration in pharmaceuticals, minerals, and digital infrastructure, we are creating new opportunities that reflect both our nations’ commitment to strengthening international cooperation and leveraging mutual expertise to drive economic progress.”

Focus Areas of Collaboration:

  • Pharmaceuticals: The UAE and Italy will collaborate on technology transfer, vaccine production, and research and development of new treatments.
  • Minerals: The agreement targets sustainable practices in mining, mineral processing, and recycling, supporting both countries’ energy transition goals.
  • Digital Infrastructure: The two countries will invest in AI and data centres, emphasizing green initiatives and secure cross-border data resilience.

The agreements come amid growing economic ties between the UAE and Italy, with non-oil trade surpassing $8.79 billion in 2023. By leveraging these partnerships, both countries aim to drive long-term economic growth and technological advancement, further cementing their global leadership in key industries.

The MoUs are expected to pave the way for joint ventures and investment opportunities that benefit both nations while supporting global efforts toward sustainability and innovation.
