Riyadh is set to host the Retail Leaders Circle (RLC) Global Forum 2025, bringing together over 100 speakers from more than 600 organizations to discuss the future of the retail industry in an era of digital innovation and economic transformation.
The two-day event, scheduled for Feb. 4-5 at the Fairmont Hotel, will convene industry executives, policymakers, and investors under the theme “Rebuilding a Shared Future.” Discussions will center on navigating regulatory changes, shifting consumer behaviors, and the increasing role of digital transformation in retail.
Retail Sector Thrives Amid Economic Growth
Saudi Arabia’s retail sector continues to show remarkable resilience, with total sales reaching SR37.4 billion ($9.97 billion) in Q3 2024, despite global economic uncertainties. Market forecasts predict retail sales will surge to $161.4 billion by 2028, while e-commerce revenue is expected to surpass $13.2 billion by 2025, according to data from Statista.
“Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 is really shaking up the retail sector, and we’re seeing exciting changes across the board,” said Panos Linardos, chairman of the RLC Global Forum. He emphasized that the sector is undergoing a major transformation, driven by digital innovation, regulatory shifts, and evolving consumer expectations.
Key Players and Investment Opportunities
The invitation-only forum will feature major industry leaders, including Diriyah Co., Apparel Group, Cenomi Centers, Chalhoub Group, and Panda Retail Co. These firms are actively shaping Saudi Arabia’s retail future, aligning with Vision 2030’s goals of economic diversification and positioning the Kingdom as a regional business hub.
“Retailers in Saudi Arabia face several challenges, such as competition from cross-border e-commerce, changing consumer expectations, and regulatory complexities,” Linardos noted. He stressed the need for businesses to embrace digital transformation, adopt omnichannel strategies, and leverage data analytics to remain competitive.
Saudi Arabia’s booming investment climate is attracting global retail players, supported by economic reforms that have streamlined regulations, enhanced investor protections, and reduced market entry barriers.
The Role of Innovation in Retail’s Future
The rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, and predictive modeling is reshaping global retail, and Saudi Arabia is no exception. The RLC Global Forum will explore how businesses can harness AI to enhance operations, improve customer engagement, and develop innovative business models.
“Innovation and technology are reshaping Saudi Arabia’s retail sector in a big way,” Linardos said. He pointed out that AI is enabling businesses to gain deeper insights into consumer behavior, optimize inventory management, and create personalized marketing strategies.
Meanwhile, e-commerce and digital payment solutions continue to drive demand for seamless shopping experiences, reinforcing the shift toward omnichannel retailing.
Saudi Arabia’s E-Commerce Expansion
The Kingdom’s e-commerce market is rapidly expanding, fueled by a tech-savvy population and strong government backing for digital transformation. With high social media engagement and mobile commerce adoption, Saudi Arabia is emerging as one of the region’s most promising e-commerce hubs.
Despite these advances, Linardos acknowledged challenges such as cross-border platforms dominating the market and the enduring appeal of traditional retail. Industry leaders emphasize the need for a balanced competitive landscape, integrating online and offline experiences to maximize consumer engagement.
A New Era for Retail in Saudi Arabia
Looking ahead, Linardos envisions Saudi Arabia’s retail sector evolving beyond traditional models to focus on lifestyle-driven retail, integrated tourism-commerce experiences, and advanced digital innovations.
“Growth won’t just come from more stores or online platforms—it will come from creating unique, immersive experiences that blend culture, entertainment, and commerce in ways never seen before in the region,” he said.
As Saudi retailers embrace AI, data-driven insights, and omnichannel strategies, those that adapt effectively will not only grow but redefine retail in the Kingdom. The RLC Global Forum 2025 will play a pivotal role in shaping this transformation, fostering collaboration, and unlocking new opportunities in the evolving retail landscape.
