Doha, Qatar — Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, has extended condolences to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the passing of former Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.

In a formal cable sent to Prime Minister Modi, Sheikh Mohammed expressed his heartfelt sympathies, recognizing the significant contributions Dr. Singh made during his tenure as India’s leader. Dr. Singh, widely regarded as a key architect of India’s economic reforms, served as the country’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014.

The message highlighted the former leader’s impact on global diplomacy and economic development, noting his role in strengthening ties between Qatar and India during his leadership. Dr. Singh’s death marks the loss of a figure celebrated for his steadfast dedication to India’s progress and global standing.

Dr. Manmohan Singh, known for his academic acumen and political pragmatism, oversaw a decade of transformative growth in India, including major advancements in technology, infrastructure, and foreign relations. His tenure was also marked by efforts to improve relations with neighboring countries and boost India’s role on the international stage.

The condolence message underscores Qatar’s close ties with India, a relationship underpinned by shared economic interests and deep cultural connections. Qatar is home to a significant Indian expatriate population, and the two nations have consistently collaborated on trade, energy, and regional stability initiatives.

Prime Minister Modi has yet to issue a formal response, but tributes to Dr. Singh’s legacy have poured in from leaders around the world, reflecting the breadth of his influence.

Dr. Singh’s passing has prompted a wave of national mourning in India, with many reflecting on his leadership style, often described as humble yet resolute. Flags are expected to fly at half-mast in India to honor the late leader, while political figures and citizens alike pay tribute to his contributions to the nation.

The diplomatic gesture from Sheikh Mohammed reaffirms the importance of international solidarity in moments of loss, as nations come together to honor the legacies of figures who have shaped history.

Dr. Singh’s contributions will remain a cornerstone of India’s modern history, as global leaders and citizens alike celebrate his life and achievements.
