Gaza City – A Palestinian man was shot and killed by Israeli forces in the town of Al-Shawka, east of Rafah, as tensions persist despite a fragile ceasefire in the besieged Gaza Strip, local sources reported on Sunday.
According to the Palestinian Information Centre, the victim, identified as Salah As-Sufi, was fatally shot as Israeli forces opened fire in the area. His death comes as the third week of the ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian factions begins, raising concerns over continued violence despite efforts to maintain calm.
Civilians Injured in Israeli Strikes
While the ceasefire remains in place, sporadic violence continues to affect civilians. Several Palestinians, including a child, were reportedly injured in Israeli airstrikes targeting areas in central and southern Gaza.
Local sources said airstrikes struck west of Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, as well as Abasan town in Khan Yunis, further escalating fears of renewed hostilities.
Young Girl Succumbs to Injuries
In a separate tragedy, medical officials confirmed that Ranim Shaat, a young Palestinian girl, died from injuries she sustained during a previous Israeli airstrike in Rafah.
Shaat had been critically wounded when an Israeli missile struck her family’s home during the recent war on Gaza. Her father and unborn brother were also killed in the attack, adding to the growing toll of civilian casualties.
Ongoing Tensions Despite Ceasefire
The latest incidents highlight the volatile situation in Gaza, where residents remain on edge despite the ceasefire agreement. Human rights organizations have repeatedly called for an end to attacks targeting civilians and urged international intervention to ensure the protection of Gaza’s population.
With tensions simmering and violence continuing to claim lives, calls for a lasting resolution to the conflict are growing louder, as Palestinians in Gaza struggle to rebuild in the aftermath of the devastating war.
