The Financial Services Authority (FSA) in Oman has set a March 31 deadline for all private hospitals and clinics offering insurance-backed healthcare services to integrate with the Dhamani electronic platform, according to a report by the Oman Daily Observer.
The move is in line with the Regulation for Health Insurance Electronic Link, issued under Ministerial Decision 83/2023, which mandates that all insurance transactions and data exchanges related to health policies must be conducted exclusively through Dhamani from the beginning of coverage until the policy’s expiration.
Strict Compliance Measures
The FSA has warned that non-compliant institutions will be removed from the networks of health service providers associated with insurance companies. This would effectively bar them from offering insurance-backed medical services, potentially leading to significant business losses for affected healthcare providers.
Dhamani: A Major Shift in Health Insurance Technology
The Dhamani platform is a centralized electronic system designed to streamline medical treatment approvals and direct payment processes for private healthcare institutions. The initiative is expected to enhance efficiency, transparency, and communication between insurers and healthcare providers, ensuring faster approvals and minimizing administrative delays.
The transition marks a major technological advancement in Oman’s health insurance sector, aiming to improve service delivery and patient experience while ensuring compliance with national regulations.
Impact on Private Healthcare Providers
With the deadline approaching, private hospitals and clinics that have not yet integrated with the Dhamani system face the risk of losing their ability to serve insured patients. Healthcare providers are now under pressure to ensure compliance before the cutoff date to avoid disruptions in their operations.
The implementation of the Dhamani platform reflects Oman’s ongoing efforts to digitize and modernize its healthcare and insurance sectors, aligning with broader national goals for improved healthcare accessibility and efficiency.
