Newcastle United is set to celebrate its historic English League Cup triumph with an open-top bus parade through the city on Saturday, marking the club’s first major domestic trophy in 70 years.

More than 150,000 fans are expected to line the streets to cheer on their team as the parade begins at St. James’ Park, winding through the city center before concluding at Town Moor. A stage has been set up at the final stop, where players will address supporters and lift the trophy in front of an ecstatic crowd.

Breaking a Seven-Decade Wait

Newcastle ended its long domestic trophy drought by defeating Liverpool 2-1 at Wembley Stadium nearly two weeks ago. The victory secured the club’s first significant silverware since winning the FA Cup in 1955. Although Newcastle claimed the now-defunct Inter-Cities Fairs Cup—a European competition—in 1969, the League Cup triumph marks a long-awaited return to domestic glory.

The parade is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. local time, with thousands of fans expected to flood the streets to celebrate the momentous achievement.

Recognition for Manager Eddie Howe

Manager Eddie Howe, who played a key role in Newcastle’s resurgence, has been nominated for the prestigious “Freedom of the City” honor. If awarded, he would join an elite list of club legends, including Alan Shearer, Bobby Robson, and Shaka Hislop, who have received the recognition for their contributions to Newcastle’s football legacy.

Under Howe’s leadership, the team has transformed into a serious contender in English football, with the backing of Saudi ownership propelling the club to new heights. The League Cup victory is seen as a major milestone in Newcastle’s ambitious revival.

City Gears Up for Celebrations

The celebrations at Town Moor will include an hour-long event featuring speeches from players and club officials, as well as the much-anticipated trophy lift. Newcastle fans, renowned for their passionate support, are expected to create an electric atmosphere throughout the event.

With Newcastle’s long-suffering supporters finally witnessing silverware return to the club, the parade is set to be an unforgettable moment in the city’s football history.
