A new campaign has been launched to inspire football fans to attend and engage with the SAFF Women’s Cup final on Wednesday. The initiative, tagged under the hashtag #SeeOurGlory, is being promoted across the social media channels of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF), clubs, and players ahead of the much-anticipated final between defending champions Al-Ahli and first-time finalists Al-Qadsiah.
The SAFF Women’s Cup, now in its second edition, kicked off in October with 16 teams from the Saudi Women’s Premier League and the Saudi Women’s First Division League competing. The final, set to take place at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, will showcase two of the strongest teams in Saudi Arabia’s rapidly growing women’s football scene. Fans can purchase tickets for the match through cup.saffwfd.com.
This year’s tournament has already surpassed last season’s goal tally, reflecting the increasing competitiveness and skill level in Saudi women’s football. Players from over 20 different countries are now competing professionally in the Kingdom, highlighting its growing appeal as a football destination.
Lamia Bahaian, vice president of SAFF, expressed her excitement about the final, stating, “This year’s SAFF Women’s Cup Final is a testament to the rapid growth and success of women’s football in Saudi Arabia. We are thrilled to see two exceptional teams compete at the highest level, showcasing the talent, passion, and progress that define this competition. This match is not just about crowning a champion; it’s about celebrating the remarkable strides that the domestic game has taken in the Kingdom, and we couldn’t be prouder.”
The road to the final has been marked by impressive performances from both teams. Defending champions Al-Ahli secured their place with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Al-Shabab in a rematch of last year’s final. Under the leadership of head coach Manar Fraij, who is in her third season with the team, Al-Ahli aims to claim another major trophy.
Meanwhile, Al-Qadsiah has made an outstanding push to their first final appearance, having finished third in the previous edition. Their semifinal match saw them eliminate league leaders Al-Nassr in a dramatic penalty shootout. Young star Sulaf Asseri, a standout under-20 national team player, made history as the first goal-scorer for her team in this year’s tournament.
Al-Qadsiah faces a formidable challenge in stopping Al-Ahli’s star forward, Moroccan striker Ibtissam Jraidi. Jraidi has been a dominant force throughout the competition, leading the tournament with eight goals and topping the league with 22 goals this season.
The SAFF Women’s Cup remains a key initiative in SAFF’s broader mission to empower female athletes in Saudi Arabia, aligning with the country’s Vision 2030 objectives to enhance sports participation and development. As excitement builds for Wednesday’s final, fans are encouraged to be part of the historic occasion and support the continued growth of women’s football in the Kingdom.
