December 4, 2024

Telecom operator e& UAE (formerly Etisalat) unveiled a new SIM card on Wednesday, specifically designed for children, offering parents enhanced control over their kids’ online activities.

The Kids SIM card, introduced at the WeProtect Global Summit 2024 in Abu Dhabi, comes with two monthly plans priced at AED 49 and AED 99. It includes features such as local call minutes, 24/7 data access, and free data for educational content. Parents can also restrict which numbers their children can call. The SIM card is available across e& UAE’s distribution channels and can be activated via the e& UAE app.

Parental Control Features

For families using standard e& SIM cards, the telecom operator has also introduced a new parental control service. This service allows parents to manage their children’s online activities both at home and on the go. Key features include:

  • Content filtering: Blocks access to inappropriate websites and apps.
  • Screen time management: Allows parents to set daily limits on device usage.
  • Social media monitoring: Tracks children’s activities on popular platforms.
  • Online activity reports: Provides detailed insights into browsing history and app usage.
  • Cybersecurity measures: Protects devices from malware, ensuring a safer digital environment for young users.

The parental control service is included for free with the Kids SIM card, while other customers can subscribe for AED 30 per month, with a one-month free trial available.

Commitment to Online Safety

Khaled Elkhouly, Chief Consumer Officer of e& UAE, highlighted the importance of the new offering:
“Through this, we aim to enhance children’s online experiences by providing parents with effective tools to manage Internet usage, protect them from online risks, and ensure their wellbeing. The easy-to-use interface and robust features are designed to prioritize children’s safety in the digital age.”

Launch at a Global Forum

The launch coincides with the WeProtect Global Summit 2024, hosted by the UAE Ministry of Interior from December 4 to 5 in Abu Dhabi. The summit focuses on combating online child exploitation, a pressing global concern.

The introduction of the Kids SIM card reflects e& UAE’s commitment to addressing these challenges by empowering parents with tools to safeguard their children’s online presence.

With the growing prevalence of digital devices in children’s lives, the new service provides a timely solution to balance connectivity and safety in an increasingly connected world.
