Dubai has embraced the festive season with grandeur, as Christmas trees and holiday decorations illuminate the city’s top attractions. Among the highlights are the lavish Dh150,000 tree at Motiongate Dubai in Dubai Parks and Resorts and the enchanting centrepiece at Expo City’s Winter City, both drawing crowds with their magical appeal.

At Motiongate Dubai, the Christmas tree reflects the park’s Hollywood-inspired theme, creating a stunning visual experience for visitors. “The tree serves as a central photo opportunity, strategically positioned to frame the iconic Motiongate arch,” said Ahmed Ali, senior manager of sports and entertainment at Dubai Parks and Resorts.

Adorned with LED lights, reflective ornaments, and custom-made garlands, the tree stands out both day and night. A team of over 30 professionals, including engineers and decorators, assembled the tree in just 8 to 12 hours, transitioning from UAE National Day decorations overnight to minimize disruption. Preparations for the tree began two weeks in advance, ensuring a seamless transformation.

Meanwhile, Expo City Dubai’s Winter City offers a magical wonderland, with its Christmas tree serving as the heart of the celebrations. Dalya Kattan, creative director for Entertainment and Experiences at Expo City Dubai, shared the inspiration behind this year’s setup, which features a North Pole and Santa’s Toy Factory theme.

The three-day installation process for Expo City’s tree involved assembling its structure and branches, followed by intricate decoration and the placement of a massive star topper. Over 45 specialists, including Al Wasl Dome projection technicians, contributed to the Winter City setup, which began as early as March.

The tree hosts Santa’s meet-and-greet sessions, creating cherished memories for families. It is surrounded by mesmerising projection displays at Al Wasl Plaza, further enhancing the festive ambiance. “The dome is divided into Santa’s Toy Factory for kids and a high-end North Pole-inspired retail market, offering visitors a unique festive experience,” said Kattan.

Adding to the seasonal magic is an artificial snowfall experience, created using eco-friendly snow machines from Desert Snow. “This feature remains both magical and sustainable, thanks to efforts to offset carbon emissions,” Kattan noted.

Winter City also boasts 30 food trucks and carts, serving festive treats and international cuisines. Special seasonal menus are offered at select Expo City restaurants, and every Saturday in December features Brunch City events, culminating in an extra-special brunch on Christmas Day.

Dubai’s festive displays, blending creativity and sustainability, continue to attract residents and tourists alike, solidifying the city’s reputation as a global hub for holiday celebrations.
