The Dubai Government Human Resources Department (DGHR) has approved a flexible working hours and remote work policy for government employees during the Holy Month of Ramadan 1446 Hijri (2025). The decision aligns with the directives of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai.
New Work Schedule During Ramadan
According to the newly approved policy, Dubai government employees will be allowed up to three flexible working hours daily, as long as they complete 5.5 hours from Monday to Thursday and three hours on Friday.
Additionally, employees will have the option to work remotely for up to two days a week, depending on their job roles, responsibilities, and operational needs. However, remote work will require coordination with direct managers to ensure that government operations remain smooth and uninterrupted.
Supporting Productivity and Community Values
The initiative is part of the Dubai Government’s broader commitment to fostering a positive and productive work environment, particularly during Ramadan. It also aligns with the UAE leadership’s declaration of 2025 as the “Year of Community”, emphasizing work-life balance and social well-being.
The policy is designed to enhance employee comfort and motivation while ensuring that government services continue efficiently. By offering flexible and remote work options, Dubai aims to promote higher productivity without disrupting essential public services.
Encouraging Private Sector Adoption
While the policy specifically applies to government employees, officials hope that private sector organizations will implement similar flexible working arrangements during Ramadan. Businesses are encouraged to tailor schedules based on their operational needs, ensuring a balance between employee well-being and business continuity.
The Dubai Government’s initiative reflects a progressive approach to workplace policies, reinforcing the emirate’s commitment to maintaining an optimal work environment while honoring cultural and religious values during the Holy Month.
