In one of the most eagerly awaited matches of the Qatar Stars League, Al Sadd and Al Rayyan are set to clash tonight in the Qatar Clasico at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium. The intense rivalry between these two teams promises an electric atmosphere for fans, as the game kicks off at 7:30 pm local time.
Currently second in the league standings with 15 points, Al Sadd are aiming to close the gap on leaders Al Duhail, who hold a four-point lead. The defending champions are riding high on momentum after a convincing 3-0 victory over Al Wakrah in their previous game. Al Sadd’s coach, Felix Sanchez, emphasized the importance of securing a win before the international break, stating, “Playing against Rayyan is always different, but as usual, we have to focus on getting the three points. It is important that we try to get a good result.”
However, Al Sadd will be without key players Pedro Miguel and Paulo Otavio, both sidelined due to injuries. Despite these challenges, Sanchez remains optimistic about his team’s current form. “The players are now at a good level, and we are getting good results. This gives us the motivation to continue,” he said. Midfielder Mohammed Waad also expressed confidence, rallying the team’s supporters by saying, “Al Sadd fans are our biggest strength, and we are waiting for them at the Qatar Clasico match.”
On the other side, Al Rayyan, currently in eighth place with 10 points, are eager to bounce back after a 2-2 draw with Al Ahli. Coach Younes Ali acknowledged the difficulties of facing a strong team like Al Sadd but conveyed faith in his squad’s ability to rise to the occasion. “Al Rayyan vs Al Sadd matches are always difficult, exciting, strong, and popular. The team that is more focused and exploits opportunities is more likely to win,” Ali remarked, noting that composure and seizing critical moments will be crucial to their performance. “We hope to avoid injuries during this challenging period, as we’re playing every three days,” he added.
Al Rayyan’s hopes will be pinned on top scorer Roger Guedes, who has netted six goals this season, alongside players Mahmoud Trezeguet, Achraf Bencharki, and Abdulaziz Hatem anchoring the midfield. Veteran player Rodrigo Tabata highlighted the match’s importance for Al Rayyan’s season, stating, “It is a very difficult match, and right now, Al Sadd have the advantage because they are better in the standings. But I think this is the right moment for us to get back on the right track and regain our winning touch.”
Beyond the Clasico, the day’s schedule also features Al Gharafa hosting Al Arabi at Thani Bin Jassim Stadium. Al Gharafa, currently in fourth place with 12 points, will be looking to build on their recent 1-1 draw against leaders Al Duhail. Meanwhile, Al Arabi, fresh off a 4-1 victory over Qatar SC, are positioned ninth in the standings with 10 points and aim to continue their winning momentum.
In a third matchup, Al Khor will face Qatar SC at Al Khor Stadium. Al Khor are at the bottom of the table with only four points, while Qatar SC sit in 11th place with seven points, making this encounter a crucial battle for both teams as they aim to climb the standings.
With the Qatar Clasico leading the day’s lineup, fans can expect a thrilling night of football as these intense rivalries play out across Qatar.
