Al Ahli Dominates Al Wakrah in High-Scoring Thriller to Join Al Duhail at the Top

In a thrilling Qatar Stars League encounter on Saturday, Al Ahli routed Al Wakrah 6-3 at Al Thumama Stadium, with Sekou Yansane and Erik Exposito both scoring braces. The victory propelled Al Ahli to second place with 25 points, level with league leaders Al Duhail but trailing on goal difference.

Al Duhail has the opportunity to regain their three-point advantage when they face Qatar SC on Sunday.

The goals came thick and fast, with Ayoub Assal giving Al Wakrah an early lead in the 11th minute. Al Ahli equalized in the 22nd minute with Yansane converting a penalty before Julian Draxler gave them a 2-1 lead in the 36th minute.

Al Wakrah’s situation worsened as Alexander Scholz was sent off in first-half stoppage time, leaving the Blue Wave down to 10 men. However, they responded strongly after halftime, with Ricardo Gomes equalizing just two minutes into the second half.

Al Ahli regained control in the 55th minute through Robin Tihi’s goal. Exposito then struck in the 68th minute, followed by Yansane’s second goal three minutes later, putting Al Ahli firmly in command. Assal managed a late consolation goal in the 95th minute, but Exposito rounded off the win with his second goal in the 98th minute.

Al Wakrah, who started the day in sixth place, now drop to seventh with 14 points.

Al Gharafa Climbs to Third After Win Over Al Khor

At Thani Bin Jassim Stadium, Al Gharafa secured a convincing 3-1 victory against bottom-placed Al Khor, moving up to third place and displacing Al Sadd.

Yacine Brahimi opened the scoring in the 33rd minute with a penalty after Ruben Semedo fouled Florinel Coman in the box. Joselu doubled Al Gharafa’s lead in the 42nd minute with a spectacular strike that hit the crossbar before going in.

Sofiane Hanni pulled one back for Al Khor in the 58th minute with a powerful shot from outside the box, but Al Gharafa’s defence held firm. In injury time, Ahmed Al Ganehi sealed the win with a precise finish from Mohammed Muntari’s cross.

Al Khor remains anchored at the bottom of the table with just seven points, while Al Gharafa continues their push for a higher finish.

Al Sadd will look to regain third place when they host Al Shamal at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium on Sunday.
