Abu Dhabi Police announced revised regulations on Friday regarding the use of cameras by officers during official duties, underscoring the force’s commitment to transparency and public accountability.
The updated policy permits officers to record both public and private spaces during legally authorized search and arrest operations. According to an official statement shared on social media, the cameras must be clearly visible, attached to either military or civilian uniforms, ensuring public awareness of ongoing recordings.
In a move aimed at fostering transparency during interactions, detainees will now be informed when recordings are taking place. This measure is designed to maintain clarity and fairness in all police operations.
Confidentiality and secure handling of recorded content form a cornerstone of the new regulations. Abu Dhabi Police emphasized that all footage will be stored using secure methods to prevent tampering or unauthorized access, thereby preserving the integrity of the recordings.
To safeguard privacy and prevent misuse, officers are strictly prohibited from publishing or sharing footage without official authorization. Any use of recorded material must serve official purposes and receive prior approval from the relevant authorities.
The enhanced measures reflect Abu Dhabi Police’s commitment to adopting global best practices in law enforcement while prioritizing the rights and privacy of individuals. The initiative aims to build trust within the community and ensure that interactions between law enforcement and the public are conducted with the highest level of professionalism.
The new regulations align with broader efforts across the UAE to implement advanced technology and transparent practices in governance, reinforcing the country’s reputation as a leader in innovative and responsible public service.
