Residents across the UAE will now be able to pay federal government fees and fines in monthly instalments, following a new agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the payment platform Tabby. The announcement was made on Tuesday as part of broader efforts to expand digital payment options and support the country’s push toward a more inclusive financial system.
Under the arrangement, Tabby will settle the full amount of a fee or fine directly with the relevant federal entity. Customers will then repay Tabby through instalments based on terms agreed at the time of payment. The model mirrors the increasingly popular “Buy Now, Pay Later” system, giving residents the ability to manage government-related expenses without paying the full cost upfront.
The Ministry of Finance said it has secured an agreement with Tabby that ensures the commission rate remains as favourable as possible. Any commission will be charged only to customers who opt to use the instalment service. Officials noted that the initiative is part of a wider effort to expand the government’s electronic payment ecosystem and support digital transformation across public services.
Saeed Rashid Al Yateem, assistant undersecretary for the Government Budget and Revenue Sector at the Ministry, said the partnership covers all federal entities. He described the initiative as a step toward adopting modern financial technologies that enhance customer satisfaction and make it easier for residents to meet financial obligations in a secure and flexible manner.
Al Yateem said the Ministry remains committed to introducing innovative tools that contribute to a sustainable and integrated financial infrastructure, aligning with national goals for digital advancement.
Tabby co-founder and CEO Hosam Arab welcomed the collaboration, saying the company aims to provide customers with wider financial flexibility at a time when digital payment habits are rapidly evolving across the country. He added that supporting the Ministry of Finance strengthens the accessibility of federal services and broadens the availability of alternative payment options for residents.
The new instalment plan is expected to benefit individuals facing unexpected government-related expenses, such as fines or administrative fees, by giving them additional time to manage payments without relying on traditional credit products.
Authorities said the rollout marks another milestone in the UAE’s efforts to streamline public-facing digital services, reduce barriers to payment, and make government transactions more convenient for millions of residents.
