Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Asaad Al Shaibani, Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Syrian Transitional Government, on Monday in Abu Dhabi. The high-level meeting aimed to bolster ties and address regional challenges.
Sheikh Abdullah warmly welcomed his Syrian counterpart and the accompanying delegation in the UAE’s capital. Discussions centered on enhancing fraternal relations between the two nations across areas of mutual interest. The leaders also reviewed the ongoing situation in Syria, regional developments, and a range of international concerns.
Reaffirming the UAE’s unwavering stance, Sheikh Abdullah emphasized his country’s commitment to supporting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He expressed the UAE’s continued backing for the Syrian people and reiterated support for regional and international efforts aimed at achieving security, stability, and prosperity for Syria.
Highlighting the importance of stability for Syria’s future, Sheikh Abdullah said, “Providing the foundations of security and stability is crucial to paving the way for a future of prosperity, progress, and development for the Syrian people.”
The meeting was attended by senior UAE officials, including Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Fadhel Al Mazrouei, Minister of State for Defence Affairs; Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State; and Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Assistant Foreign Minister for Political Affairs. Also present were Saeed Mubarak Al Hajeri, Assistant Foreign Minister for Economic and Commercial Affairs, and Hassan Ahmed Al Shehhi, UAE Ambassador to Syria.
The Syrian delegation included prominent ministers and officials such as Marhaf Abu Qasra, Minister of Defence; Omar Al-Shaqrouq, Minister of Electricity; Ghiath Diab, Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources; and Anas Khattab, Head of the General Intelligence Service.
This high-profile meeting underscores the UAE’s commitment to fostering regional cooperation and addressing critical issues facing Syria. By strengthening bilateral ties and encouraging dialogue, the UAE seeks to contribute to Syria’s path toward peace, stability, and long-term development.
