Dubai’s Mawaheb Art Café marked a significant milestone last month with the official unveiling of its rebranding and renovation. Located now in Al Quoz, the café’s transformation reflects its mission as a unique hub for art, community, and empowerment, particularly for people of determination.
A Journey of Growth
Founded in 2015 in Dubai’s Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood as a modest coffee shop, Mawaheb has evolved into a vibrant space offering workshops and life skills training. Its new identity and location aim to amplify its purpose of fostering social connections and artistic expression.
The café doubles as an art gallery, showcasing works by its student artists—people of determination who bring their creative visions to life. During the relaunch, Mawaheb revealed its latest collection, Landscape, a project that took over six months to complete.
“This space is more than a café,” said founder Wemmy De Waal. “It’s a place where we empower creativity, forge connections, and prove that inclusivity can change the world.”
Stories of Empowerment
Mawaheb has been transformative for students like 35-year-old Nitin Bablani, who has been with the café since its inception. Nitin proudly presented his bold and colorful landscape painting, reflecting his growth and creativity nurtured at the café.
“Nitin looks forward to Mawaheb every morning,” said his mother, Renu. “It keeps him active and focused.” His father, Ashok, echoed the sentiment, praising the café’s additional offerings like yoga and life skills training.
Another long-time student, 33-year-old Namrata Pagarani, shared how Mawaheb has inspired her art, drawing from figures like Picasso and Frida Kahlo. “I can be myself here,” she said, emphasizing the sense of community the café provides.
Volunteer artist Najat Alshejni lauded the students for their creativity. “Each has a unique technique that has inspired me far more than I could have imagined,” she said.
A Vision Reimagined
The café’s rebranding was spearheaded by Forsite Creative, whose team transformed the space into a welcoming environment for work, relaxation, and gatherings. “We wanted to create a space that benefits both the students and the larger community,” said Gustavo, a managing partner at Forsite.
The result is a multifaceted venue that blends art, food, and inclusivity, inviting visitors to enjoy specialty coffee, admire the artwork, and engage in a supportive environment.
Inspiring Through Inclusivity
Mawaheb Café’s reimagined space continues to champion creativity and empowerment. As it turns a new page, the café stands as a testament to the power of inclusivity, proving that with community support, remarkable transformations are possible.
