In a life-changing turn of events, 29-year-old Vinod Puthiya Purayil, an equipment operator at Dnata and soon-to-be father, has been crowned a millionaire in Dubai Duty-Free’s Millennium Millionaire Series 483 draw. Originally from Kannur, Kerala, Purayil calls this unexpected win a “gift from above” as he prepares to welcome his first child.
Purayil won with ticket number 1880, purchased online on November 30. Reflecting on the moment, he recalled receiving the call while driving. “I was shocked when they asked for my details,” he said. “I had no idea why until they told me I had won.”
For the past four years, Purayil has been pooling resources with friends, colleagues, and family to participate in the draw. Every month, around ten people from his group contribute towards ticket purchases, rotating names for each entry. This time, their efforts paid off with the jackpot win.
“The moment I heard the news, I informed the group members, and they were beyond excited,” Purayil shared. His contribution of Dh50 to the winning ticket means he will receive approximately $100,000 (Dh367,300) from the prize.
Purayil’s participation extends beyond one group—he contributes to four different ticket-buying pools, spending over Dh300 monthly. “It’s all worth it now,” he said with a smile.
The emotional milestone coincides with a deeply personal chapter in his life. His wife, who is seven months pregnant, is currently in India. “When I told her about the win, she started crying with joy. This is an early gift for our baby and a blessing for our growing family,” he said.
The group plans to meet at the Dubai Duty-Free office to finalize their plans and celebrate the victory. “It’s a collective joy for all of us,” Purayil remarked.
This win has brought not only financial relief but also hope and joy for Purayil and his loved ones. “This is not just my win but a blessing for my family and all my group members,” he said. “The timing is perfect, with my child arriving soon. It’s about hope, joy, and a brighter future for our family.”
For Purayil, the win is more than just a financial windfall—it’s a life-affirming moment as he looks forward to the birth of his child and a promising future.
