Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a significant fare reduction for its bus-on-demand service in the Business Bay area, effective December 20. The fare has been slashed from Dh5 to Dh2, aiming to enhance traffic flow and encourage greater adoption of the service.
Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at RTA’s Public Transport Agency, highlighted the initiative’s potential impact. “The fare reduction initiative for the bus-on-demand service in Business Bay will enhance traffic flow, contributing to smoother movement in this vital area,” he stated.
The bus-on-demand service, which connects selected areas via small public buses, is part of Dubai’s broader efforts to provide innovative transportation solutions. Passengers can book rides through the Dubai Bus On-Demand app, selecting their route and paying directly via the platform.
“The service provides an innovative solution for first- and last-mile trips, bridging the gap between passengers’ residences and the nearest public transport stations,” Shakri added.
Future Expansion Plans
The RTA has ambitious plans to expand the service to 10 areas across Dubai by the first half of 2025. A fleet of 41 buses will be deployed to support the network’s growth. This expansion aligns with Dubai’s commitment to improving public transportation accessibility and reducing reliance on private vehicles.
The fare reduction is expected to increase the service’s popularity among residents and commuters, particularly in Business Bay, a bustling commercial and residential district.
Innovative Mobility Solution
Dubai’s bus-on-demand service offers a flexible and convenient transportation option, particularly for short-distance travel. By using the app, passengers can customize their travel routes and access a cost-effective alternative to traditional public transport or private taxis.
The initiative also supports Dubai’s vision of enhancing sustainable and smart mobility solutions while addressing first- and last-mile connectivity challenges.
The reduced fare and planned expansion signal Dubai’s ongoing commitment to improving public transport options and creating a seamless, user-friendly travel experience for residents and visitors alike.
As the service gains traction, it is likely to contribute significantly to reducing congestion and supporting the city’s goal of becoming a global leader in smart and sustainable urban mobility.
