AJMAN: Taxi fares in Ajman will decrease in December following a reduction in fuel prices, the Ajman Transport Authority announced on Saturday.
Beginning December 1, the cost per kilometre for taxis will be reduced to AED 1.74, a three-fil drop from the previous month’s rate of AED 1.77. The move reflects Ajman Transport’s policy of adjusting taxi fares in line with monthly fuel price fluctuations.
The announcement comes after the UAE set December fuel prices, marking the lowest rates for petrol this year. Drivers will save between AED 6.12 and AED 9.62 on a full tank of petrol, depending on their vehicle type, compared to November’s prices.
Ajman Transport’s fare adjustment policy ensures that residents benefit directly from changes in fuel costs, making taxi services more affordable during periods of lower petrol prices.
The revised fares provide some relief for residents and visitors, offering a cost-effective transportation option as the emirate enters the busy holiday season. Taxi services in Ajman remain an essential mode of transport for many, and the fare reduction is expected to ease financial pressure on frequent commuters.
This reduction follows a trend of fluctuating fuel prices throughout the year, with December’s rates providing some respite after months of elevated costs. The policy to align cab fares with fuel prices not only ensures transparency but also reinforces the emirate’s commitment to supporting its residents.
The lower taxi rates are expected to boost demand for public transportation, particularly as residents take advantage of the cost savings for daily commutes and leisure travel.
Ajman Transport has urged residents to make use of the reduced fares and continue supporting environmentally friendly public transportation options. As fuel prices are reviewed monthly, further adjustments to taxi fares will depend on January’s fuel price announcement.
With the cost of living a growing concern across the region, initiatives like this demonstrate how responsive policies can have a positive impact on the community.
