According to Aviation Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique, Pakistan International Airlines (PIAa.PSX) is expected to recommence flights to Britain within the next three months. The airline had suspended its services to the United Kingdom due to a fake pilot scandal. However, with the recent enactment of new legislation, the last obstacle hindering Pakistan’s national carrier from operating flights to the UK has been removed.
Although specific details regarding the legislation were not provided, Rafique assured the parliament that the necessary measures have been taken to enable the resumption of flights. It’s worth noting that this development is focused solely on resuming services to Britain and does not encompass any plans to resume flights to other European destinations.
After the European Union’s Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) revoked Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA) authorization to operate flights to Europe and the UK in 2020 due to a fake pilot license scandal in the South Asian nation, all PIA flights to the mentioned destinations were suspended.
According to PIA spokesman Abdullah H. Khan, the national carrier is eagerly anticipating the resumption of its UK route. He emphasized the significance of this route by stating, “The U.K. and Europe contribute to 37% of our total revenue.”
