Yas Island is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Abu Dhabi. This artificial leisure island is home to some of the most famous travel hotspots in the world.
It is renowned for housing well-known venues in the exciting world of racing, including the Yas Marina Circuit and Ferrari World Abu Dhabi. It is also a favourite destination for ladies’ and gents’ nights out, family getaways, and genuine water fun.
If you’re going to Yas Island anytime soon, here are four things you should do to make the most of your trip.
Plan your trip right.
When planning your trip, remember to follow the Goldilocks Rule: do it “just right.”
Too much planning and you will remove all the fun out of the vacation; too little planning and you will end up wasting time when you need to decide what to do next until the last minute.
That said, the key is to plan around the purpose of your trip.
Are you there for a romantic beach getaway with your special someone? Book a hotel and set up activities with that in mind.
Maybe you are there to experience new adventures and make more memories with your children. Go somewhere fun to make the trip truly memorable, like the Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi or Ferrari World Abu Dhabi.
The reason why you’re going to Yas Island will help you decide on other details of your travel itinerary.
Set a budget.
Unless you’re ready to blow all your savings in one go, you have to set a budget when travelling to Yas Island (or anywhere at that).
The amount you set will largely depend on several factors, including:
-
- Your companions – The more people in your travel group, the higher the trip’s total cost will be. Besides that, who comes with you also affects how much money you’ll need to bring. For example, you may need to spend more money even if you’re just going with your girlfriend, since you might be booking a luxury hotel for a romantic couple’s vacation. Going alone may also cost more in terms of a per-person calculation, since you won’t have anyone to share your expenses with.
- The trip’s timing – In many tourist destinations, accommodation and leisure activities may cost more during peak seasons, such as the holidays or on weekends, compared to regular days.
- Your itinerary – This not only includes the duration of your hotel stay but also the activities you intend to do. Some experiences can cost you more than others.
Time your trip well.
The timing of your travel can affect every aspect of the trip.
First, the budget. As mentioned earlier, there are days when prices on Yas Island may increase because of the influx of people visiting there. However, there are also periods when the cost of almost every aspect of a vacation there will be quite low.
According to a travel blog, the cheapest time to fly to Yas Island on average is between January and March, except for some weeks in February and March; and August to December, not including a few weeks in October. The blog also mentioned mid-September as being the most affordable time to go on a Yas Island vacation.
The blogger based this information on historical data collected across travel platforms, tourist lodging, etc.
Research the destination.
Considering that Yas Island is packed with lots of wonderful attractions, you need to be wise in creating your itinerary list for your trip. This is where thorough research becomes useful.
To help you get started, below are some tourist-favourite spots Yas Island has to offer and some details about them:
Ferrari World Abu Dhabi
The Ferrari World Abu Dhabi has been attracting visitors to the capital way back when Yas Island had only a handful of attractions. Dubbed as the world’s largest indoor theme park, this tourist spot is home to Formula Rossa – the record holder for the fastest roller coaster in the world.
Of course, there are plenty of other thrilling rides you must try when visiting the theme park, including Flying Aces and the once-in-a-lifetime experience of riding iconic racing vehicles from the famous car brand.
Ferrari World Abu Dhabi is open every day between 12 noon and 8 p.m. This schedule may change periodically, so always check their website for the latest updates.
Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi
Considered the most impressive water park in the Middle East, Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi has over 40 rides and attractions built around the theme “The Legend of the Lost Pearl” to pay homage to the Emirati pearl diving heritage.
The park is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Mondays to Saturdays, so be sure to schedule your trip with friends or family accordingly.
Yas Marina Circuit
The Yas Marina Circuit is considered one of the best tracks globally, but not just because it has the longest straight F1 track. What has made it quite famous is the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Ever since it hosted the racing event, the Yas Marina Circuit has become a favourite destination in Yas Island, even among non-racing fans.
Of course, if you are a fan of the sport, you can sign up for a driving course and experience what it’s like to drive a Formula 3000 car (or ride it safely with a professional behind the wheel).
Here’s the latest schedule of some Yas Marina Circuit experiences you can try (as of this writing):
- Ride – Thursday to Saturday
- Drive – Thursday to Saturday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
- Kart – Every day from 9 a.m. to 12 midnight
If you time your trip right, you may even experience watching an actual race. If you do get the timing right, be sure to book the best seat at the Sun Tower for uninterrupted views of the entire race track.
Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi
Warner Bros. World is the perfect place to live your dream of being a superhero. There, you’ll find the most popular fantastical cities where your favourite DC comic book heroes lived. You can also enjoy a trip down memory lane and meet the cartoon and comic book characters that helped shape your childhood.
Hosting 29 exciting rides and live entertainment, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi is segmented into six sections: Gotham City, Metropolis, the Warner Bros Plaza, Bedrock, Dynamite Gulch, and Cartoon Junction.
Pro tip: Instead of manually booking your Yas Island itinerary, consider opting for theme park package deals if you’re planning to go theme park hopping, anyway. With this, you will need less effort coordinating and have more time to focus on packing and preparing yourself for the trip.
The Adventure of a Lifetime
Yas Island, Abu Dhabi is a place that holds plenty of bucket-list-worthy experiences people of all ages can enjoy.
Start your travel plan with a purpose, set a budget, and learn all about what’s in store for you there so you can have the adventure of a lifetime.
