WhatsApp Unveils Holiday Update With New Features for Calls, Chats, and Status

WhatsApp Unveils Holiday Update With New Features for Calls, Chats, and Status
Web Reporter
December 16, 2025

WhatsApp is ringing in the holidays with a fresh bundle of features designed to make connecting with family, friends, and colleagues easier and more engaging. The new update introduces innovations across calls, chats, and status updates, including missed call messages, improved Meta AI image generation, animated media, and interactive stickers. The features aim to streamline communication, foster creativity, and enhance user engagement during the busy festive season.

Calls have been made simpler and smarter with several new tools. Missed call messages allow users to leave a voice or video note with a single tap if they cannot answer immediately, offering a modern alternative to traditional voicemail. The update also brings reactions in voice chats, enabling participants to respond in real time without interrupting ongoing conversations. In group video calls, a new speaker spotlight feature automatically prioritises the current speaker, making it easier for participants to follow discussions and stay engaged during larger calls.

Chats are receiving a creative boost with improved Meta AI image generation powered by Midjourney and Flux. Users can now generate richer and more detailed visuals, ideal for creating festive greetings to share in chats or on status updates. Additionally, any photo can be transformed into a short animated video, adding a fun, dynamic element to conversations. The update introduces a new media tab on desktop for Mac, Windows, and Web, enabling faster searching for documents, links, and media. Cleaner link previews have also been added, keeping long URLs streamlined and chats visually neat.

Status updates and channels are becoming more interactive with the introduction of new stickers, music lyrics, and question prompts. These additions encourage more expressive communication and engagement with friends and family. Admins of Channels can now post questions to their audience, allowing real-time interaction and feedback collection.

WhatsApp said the holiday update is designed to help users stay connected while managing busy schedules, combining convenience, creativity, and interactive experiences.

“WhatsApp is ringing in the holidays with a fresh bundle of features designed to make connecting with family, friends, and colleagues easier and more engaging,” the company stated, highlighting the emphasis on meaningful communication during the festive season. The platform also promised that this update is just the beginning, with more features and enhancements planned to keep users engaged and creative in the months ahead.

The rollout of these updates aims to strengthen WhatsApp’s role as a central communication hub, supporting both personal and professional interactions with smarter, more engaging tools. Users can explore the new features across mobile, desktop, and web platforms immediately, enhancing the way they connect and share moments during the holidays.
