In 1969, a computer message was successfully transmitted by UCLA students who created a connection to another university and that was the birth of the Internet we all know and love. The 1990s saw the creation of the World Wide Web and the rest is history; we are currently enjoying web 2.0 and as you would expect, Internet 3.0 is on the horizon.
The Internet of Things
The IoT is a network for digital devices to communicate with each other; which means no human involvement and this traffic will not impact the web 2.0 that we currently use; indeed, the IoT will be a global grid that puts every square foot of the planet online. In a few years from now, you can use your smartphone to set the temperature in your living room and have dinner cooked as your driverless car brings you home.
Virtual Reality
VR has been developing the background; check out the latest headsets for VR gaming, which will quickly trend around the world. Some would say that we are selling our souls to digital tech, but we have little choice but to participate and your ID is logged into the system; VR is one of the best things to happen in gaming, and thanks to super-fast data transfer, you can enjoy a real-time virtual experience. Imagine playing online slot machines in a virtual casino! This is the near future, according to most tech experts and the resolution can’t get much better than 8K, which is coming soon.
Air Screens
If you remember Star Trek, you can recall those screens projected into the air, you can move items around with your hands; we are probably a decade away from air screens and that will be a game-changer in more ways than one. Bluetooth will likely evolve alongside display interfaces, allowing for extremely fast data transfer.Â
Metaverse
You may have heard Mark Zuckerburg talk about his vision of the metaverse; a digital universe that you can travel through and encounter other virtual characters, much like in the real world. The mind boggles when you consider how different our lives might be in the year 2050! We could even upload our consciousness into the cloud and download it into a robot and call ‘it’ a humanoid. Does this mean we can live forever? Well, we are still in the early stages of development, but digital immortality could well be the future. Click here for how tech is boosting science.
Human Chip Inserts
Elon Musk’s company Neuralink is striding towards merging the human with digital tech and they are already inserting chips into chimpanzees; this amazing entrepreneur manages to run SpaceX, Tesla, Twitter, and the Boring Company, as well as Neuralink. There are start-ups in Europe and Scandinavia that offer under-the-skin chip technology; you’ll never need your car keys again once you have a tiny chip inserted under the skin, while they can be used a secure form of entry into a confidential facility.
The Internet is constantly evolving and the other thing we can say for sure is that speeds will always increase.
