Sharjah Airport Gradually Resumes Operations After Weather Disruptions

Sharjah Airport Gradually Resumes Operations After Weather Disruptions

“Sharjah Airport has announced the gradual resumption of flight operations on Saturday morning following widespread weather-related disruptions that affected air traffic across the UAE over the past several hours.”

Adverse weather conditions, including dense fog and periods of strong winds, led to significant operational challenges at the airport, prompting cancellations, diversions and rescheduling of multiple flights. According to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), six flights were cancelled while 21 others were diverted to alternative airports or rescheduled as safety measures were put in place.

Airport authorities said the disruptions were caused by rapidly changing weather conditions that reduced visibility and affected runway operations. Officials stressed that all decisions were taken to safeguard passengers, aircraft and flight crews.

Sharjah Airport confirmed that operations are continuing, with specialised teams working to clear backlogs and reorganise flight schedules in close coordination with airlines and air traffic control. Weather conditions are being closely monitored, and airport management said it is implementing necessary measures in line with approved safety standards to minimise further disruption.

Passengers were advised to remain alert to potential changes in flight schedules. The airport urged travellers to regularly check flight status updates through the official Sharjah Airport website, airline mobile applications or by contacting airlines directly, noting that weather-related delays and adjustments may still occur.

The disruption follows warnings from the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), which on February 7 forecast unstable weather conditions across parts of the UAE in the coming days. The NCM said humid mornings, partly cloudy skies and a chance of rainfall are expected from Saturday, February 8, through Wednesday, February 11.

Morning humidity and possible mist are forecast on several days, particularly over coastal, western and internal regions, which could continue to affect visibility during early hours. The weather authority also expects periods of increased cloud cover, with a chance of rain over islands and some coastal, northern and eastern areas, especially on Saturday night, Sunday and Tuesday.

Temperatures are predicted to rise through Monday before easing slightly over coastal and western regions by Tuesday. Winds are expected to be light to moderate overall, though they may strengthen at times and change direction.

Sea conditions are forecast to range from slight to moderate, becoming rough at times in the Arabian Gulf, particularly in northern areas. The NCM has advised sea-goers to exercise caution during periods of stronger winds and urged residents to remain vigilant during misty conditions that could affect road and marine safety.

Airport officials said further updates will be issued as weather conditions evolve, urging travellers to plan ahead and allow extra time when heading to the airport.
