RTA Completes Free Wi-Fi Rollout at Key Transport Hubs, Expands Data-Driven Marine Services

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has announced the completion of a major digital upgrade across its public transport network, providing free Wi-Fi access at 21 public bus stations and 22 marine transport stations. The project, launched in partnership with telecommunications provider e&, is aimed at improving commuter convenience and supporting the city’s broader vision for digital transformation.

According to a report by WAM, the official Emirates News Agency, the new connectivity service allows commuters to stay connected using their smartphones, tablets, and laptops while in transit. The initiative is a key component of RTA’s strategic plan to enhance the daily travel experience and aligns with Dubai’s ambition to become the world’s smartest and happiest city.

“This project reflects our ongoing commitment to innovation and customer-centric services,” the RTA stated. “We are working to ensure that all segments of society benefit from smart, accessible, and efficient public transport solutions.”

The authority added that the Wi-Fi network’s performance will be regularly assessed and upgraded in collaboration with e& to guarantee consistent high-speed connectivity across the Emirate’s growing public transportation system.

Data-Driven Marine Transport Enhancements

In a related development, the RTA has also strengthened its Seasonal Network initiative for marine transport by integrating advanced data analysis techniques to enhance operational flexibility. Launched in May 2025, the update enables the authority to adapt services in real time based on seasonal demand fluctuations, particularly during public holidays, festivals, and large-scale events.

The planning behind the initiative involved developing in-house algorithms capable of analyzing large volumes of data from multiple sources. These algorithms help generate adaptable operational models for ferry and water taxi services, allowing each season to be assessed independently for more precise planning.

“This innovation allows us to tailor operations based on passenger needs while boosting occupancy rates and ensuring efficient resource deployment,” the RTA said. “It reinforces our mission to continuously improve customer satisfaction while maintaining high standards of service delivery.”

Together, the Wi-Fi rollout and the seasonal marine service upgrades reflect RTA’s commitment to leveraging smart technology to improve transportation experiences across Dubai. Both efforts mark significant progress in the city’s pursuit of digital excellence and smart mobility.
