Huawei has officially launched its latest flagship devices—the HUAWEI Pura 80 Series and the HUAWEI MatePad 11.5—at a high-profile event in Dubai under the theme “Fashion Next.” The launch showcased the company’s continued push for innovation in both technology and design, while also spotlighting its expanding influence in the world of mobile photography.
The Pura 80 Series, comprising the Pura 80 Pro and Pura 80 Ultra, took centre stage at the event. The new smartphones boast powerful imaging capabilities, with both models featuring a one-inch Ultra Lighting HDR camera. This is paired with Ultra Chroma pixel-level colour calibration to deliver lifelike colour reproduction and sharp image clarity. A standout feature of the Pura 80 Ultra is its pioneering dual telephoto camera system—a first in the industry. The switchable dual-lens setup offers enhanced zoom versatility, catering to mobile photography enthusiasts seeking professional-grade results.
In addition to imaging advancements, Huawei has placed significant emphasis on the visual aesthetics of the new devices. The Pura 80 Series blends Eastern and Western design influences, showcased through a distinctive glazed monochrome-inspired finish, reflecting the brand’s focus on both form and function.
Alongside its flagship smartphones, Huawei also introduced the MatePad 11.5, a tablet designed with students and professionals in mind. The device features a 2.5K FullView Display enhanced with PaperMatte technology for improved eye comfort. With a sleek 6.1 mm profile, the MatePad houses a 10,100 mAh battery and supports the latest HUAWEI M-Pencil (3rd generation) with magnetic wireless charging. Productivity tools like Huawei Notes and GoPaint have also received updates to support creative and academic tasks.
The Dubai launch event also marked the opening of entries for the XMAGE Awards 2025, Huawei’s global mobile photography competition now in its eighth edition. The contest includes eight diverse categories such as “So Far So Close,” “Good Night,” and “Faces,” and introduces a new “XMAGE 100” format. Submissions, which opened globally on June 11, will be evaluated by an expanded international panel on criteria including technical excellence, emotional impact, and artistic expression.
Winners of the XMAGE Awards will be honoured at Paris Photo 2025, held at the Grand Palais in Paris, where Huawei will return as a participant. The exhibition, themed “The World, You and Me,” highlights the company’s commitment to merging technological innovation with artistic expression on a global stage.
