When things go awry, all sorts of posts start popping up on the internet. We tried to find out from a few experts on how to distinguish between right and wrong information. A few days ago, a rumor #DCblackout started circulating that all social communication in the US capital, Washington, has been completely banned. However, the fact is that the Internet was not banned in Washington. Regardless of the fact, this hashtag has been trending for hours. Some people must have expressed doubts about it, but the rumor continued to spread.
The global epidemic is spreading and on the other hand, we hear some bad news every day. As a result, many people’s ability to think and to distinguish between truth and falsehood is greatly diminished.
If you share something on the internet with the aim of awakening the world, it is possible that your message will reach other people besides your followers. This means that even sharing the wrong information can spread your message far and wide.
Be patient and wait!!
When something bad happens to us, we want others to share it. This is why misinformation is spread. The purpose of sharing information is to provoke emotions, and when your emotions begin to subside you should stop and take stock of the situation. If a rumor is circulating on social media, it can be difficult for protesters to verify the information immediately in a potentially insecure environment.
If we hear any disturbing news, we should go as far as possible to confirm it. If the news turns out to be false, go back and let others know. When presenting accurate facts about fake information that goes viral, remember that many people will ignore you. In this case, everyone is doubting the intentions of others, especially when the authorities themselves are spreading false information.
There is no denying that misinformation is very difficult to analyze and it doesn’t take long for the mental balance to deteriorate when we have one bad news after another. We have better media than in the past and we can afford a lot, but sometimes it all comes down to it. We may have the resources to deal with this situation, but it is true that we are not ready for it at all.
